LOL!

Thanks for the idea! I have a new party where two of
the four players know enough SR lore to run away any
time somebody mentions the UB (the other two are
innocent lambs :P).

I could make the Salvation Army a "branch" of the UB
(through a shell company), and they'll only know the
ugly truth when they have no other choice but to
complete the run :D

What do you think? any other ideas on how to run the
UB with players who know bugs?

*Black Humor section:

Top 3 Ranking of GM's evil deeds:
3) Convince a character who knows nothing about the UB
and bugs to join it. The player know nothing about the
UB either.

2) The player knows, but the character doesn't.

1) The player knows, and so does the character, but
the Evil Game Master convinces him to join the
Brotherhood (if somebody manages to do this, I think
he'll earn major bragging rights).

Saludos,

Who says the Salvation Army has to be a branch of the UB? Make it a stand
alone. One of our buddies had UB as the good guys and Crash Cart as bugs.
Made it interesting because the players wouldn't go near the Brotherhood.
That was until until people started "dying" to often while on pick-ups from
Crash Cart.

You don't even have to make it the whole Salvation Army, just the
local chapter(s). Then later on in the campaign you can introduce
the "clean" chapters and the players will be skittish. :)

That's not the route I'd take, mainly because of two reasons: the first is
realism, in that the Salvation Army has been around for much longer than
the UB, and because they're not corporations it's unlikely one would buy
out the other to become an AOL-UB-Time Warner-Salvation Army or something.
The other is that it would make it seem to players as if _everything_ is
related -- IOW, that it's all one big conspiracy, of which they're always
dealing with small parts. Unless that's your intention, of course, I think
it'd be better to keep some things separate.

Changing the name and some details would be the simplest solution, I'd
think. As long as they don't know what the adventure Missing Blood is
actually about, this should work well enough.

When I first started seeing UB in SR, especially the advertisments in London
Sourcebook, everything screamed L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. Now FASA
couldn't use Scientology or any other real life organization, and thus
invented UB.

The easy thing would be just to change it, so UB was the good guys, and
Scientology was the bad guys... now wait that doesn't change anything :-)

In any case changing Shadowrun names into real life names is something that
I do all the time. In my SR world Euphoria wasn't taken to Amber Gel, she
was taken to a Coca-Cola botteling plant. My players don't like Coke much
anymore.
