Actually, I'm sure that Damien Knight has just as much security as the
President of the US, or any government leader for that matter. And there
are plenty of times an assassin has gotten through. The Secret Service,
Ares Security, whoever, will not be able to stop an assassin who is
skilled, dedicated, and is willing to throw his life away for his target's
life.

I never thought of Ryan as a munchkin character. He's definitely the top of
what any runner could be after years of training. But remember, he's a
major NPC. From his power levels I would assume that put into stats he
would fit right in to some of the characters that were put into that
netbook Edge Runners. They were for the most part all high level in some
form or another, but the impression was that they were around for years and
had earned their way up.

Ryan is a high level adept who had training from one of the best magical
teachers out there. He spent all of his time either traing or running, and,
at least at the very beginning, is the very picture of a fanatic. He
actually gets into trouble when he starts to realize what he was missing
out on.

I just don't think that he has that munchkin thing about him. He's trying
for something in that book. I sweated for him a few times during the
series, and for the world a few more. I agree that Burnout was sympathetic
later on, but I though that they both grew as characters.

All IMHO of course:)
