Just need a few questions clearing up.

1. Is there an overall language for the SSC lands or does each tribe have
their own personal languages. What language would government business be
done in. Would English still be the default language or would they want to
get rid of all the Anglo stuff and revert to pre-english language.

2. Is there a decent map/or could someone put one up on the web showing what
the SSC borders are. By this I mean the internal borders between each tribe
that make up the SSC, not the international one.

3. Law enforcement. Does anyone with the NAN books know if this was covered.
Best guess I've come up with is that the different tribes have their own
police/laws in their lands- like current US states- with an overall federal
police/border guards (for international borders)- like the FBI and
imigration services- and federal laws.

Reason I ask is that our groups starting up an alternative campaign as
bounty hunters- tracking down crims for the reward on them. We do everyone
from street level criminals up to shadowrunners. Kind of like a LoneStar
campaign but not as all powerful and unbalancing. For my PC I want a few
contacts in Salish-Shidhe lands for when someone I'm tracking jumps the plex
walls and runs into SSC turf. We figured this is the most likely way for
people to run as the airport is too secure for anyone on the run to bluff
through and the docks are taken care of through other contacts. So I wanted
to try and pick up some of the language to show willing and hopefully get on
better with people. Plus I needed some contacts in the police for help,
therefore the how's the police organised question.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Doesn't answer all your questions, but it tells you where to look.

Sounds fairly cool; I have a similar character in one of my campaigns; he
downloads a list every month from an underworld website of
corporate/underworld/miscalanious bountys on people's heads along with last
known locations, pictures ect. Every so often when the team needs money or
he is stuck for something to do he asks me if there are any low level hits
out on someone seen recently where he is. Sometimes he spends a night
asking questions and getting nowhere, sometimes he finds and brings in the
target. I have yet to let him score some big cash off it, but its a nice
character detail to play with.

NAN 1 doesn't mention much about language, which I take to mean that most
people speak English, though tribal languages may be spoken within a tribe.

>From NAN1: "the individual tribes keep to themselves. Each has its own
territory, its own way of life and very nearly its own economy."

The map in the SR2 rule book (in the back) should do. It doesn't show all of
SSC, but covers most of it.

It's covered, but it is so abstract that you can pretty much do what you
want. There are two legal systems, tribal and civil.

Tribal laws vary widely by tribe, and apply to "members of the tribe and
anyone within that tribes jurisdiction." Enforcement is up to the tribe, and
varies from modern police to no police at all.

Civil laws are more like national laws. They control things like cyberware
and weapons and so on. "On issues that could be considered arbitrary, the
Council promulgates no laws at all. For example, different tribes have
different attitudes toward theft and bribery." Therefore, national law has
nothing to say about these; however, national law would apply if it involves
the national government in some way. So, for example, bribing a cop is not
against national law, but bribing a national government official is.

Tribal police "or their equivalents" are the guys who make arrests for both
national and tribal laws. Coast and Border Patrols, and the Ranger Forces
can arrest anyone violating national law, but not tribal law.
