How do you handle Sam's who want to dikote-coat their edges? (razors,
spurs, etc)

More succinctly...
What's the area of each of those kinds of weapons? I just charge them an
... PUN ALERT... arm and leg.

Anything that is to be dikoted must be able to survive the heat of the
process--this rules out /any/ plastics or fabrics (no dikoting your armor,
please :). If you're feeling exceptionally vengeful, it'll also detemper
any tempered metals, and the quick heating-cooling cycles of tempering are
going to crack the dikote.

Anyway, calculating area is pretty simple if you just approximate. Multiply
the average length by average width and double it. Fudge a little bit on
the high side to deal with depth, and you're reasonably close. Then charge
an arm and a leg :).

Oh... nice... I hadn't thought of that. (No more dikote hand-made swords....)

I should have thought of the area a bit more. How long/wide would you say
a spur is? It's not that I think the PC's will Ever be able to afford it
(we can pray), but I'm curious. Spurs... 30 cm by 3 cm?

For the smaller stuff - there is a minimum cost [I don't have my book or
I would quote the base price] for like a 100 square cm or some such make
a guess when they want multiples [an average 3 in blade would require
aprox 6 square inches of Diocote ]

Heh. I thought people would like that one :).

Figure the length of the arm from elbow to wrist and subtract a bit; that's
a maximum. But 30cm by 3cm sounds good to me.

Actually the total area on a spur or hand razor blade is minimal. I would
charge the rate for 1 m^2 for each blade plus a processing fee and minor
surgery cost for installation.
