[Let me preface by saying I STAY AWAY from discussion of religion
ESPECIALLY online...With that in mind...]
Why not?? No really I'm being serious
here..There is no reason in the world that a Samie couldn't have a
totem.. Especially in the world of SR..Now don't get me wrong..I am
-not- saying they should get -any- bonuses or magical powers for the
adoption of a totem by a non-magical PC..
An NPC on the other hand [EGMG]..But I digress..
A Samurai could adopt a totem at creation or perhaps later on As the
player figures out how to better integrate the RolePlaying aspect of
a totem into a Samurai character..Following the discriptions of
attitude and demeanor in the magical section of the BBB and of course
all of the other sources of this sort of info..This could turn into a
very good RP aid..
After all..AFAIK those who currently believe in -certain- Native
American as well as some Celtic belief systems..also follow and or
believe in the existence or guidance of totem beings..
So there is no reason a Samurai or any other PC couldn't adopt a
totem..And IF the GM is -real- generous..there might even be the
occasional visit by the totem to a PC in a highly meditative or dream
state..wether any info given in this state can be relied on is up to
the GM of course..But I do think that this is a mostly unexplored
area of the SR world that -could- be rich with RP opportunities...
