Hola,

Just a note that Secrets of Shadowrun (http://tss.dumpshock.com/sos.php) is
updated as of Mike's Origins Secrets of Shadowrun seminar.

Once again at Gencon we will be recording a full audio version of the
Secrets of Shadowrun seminar, so stay tuned - and for those of you with
download quota's, keep 20 megs free for the middle of August ;)

20????? Adam, you should be ashamed of yourself ... folks, for the really
brave at heart, there's going to be some fairly large files running loose to
help cover the seminars and such as well coming from HHH and possibly
another site (last I knew ;-). Video is coming of age.

20MB? Can't you use low quality MP3s or something? Or set up a Shoutcast
server with that looping or something? :)

The problem Tzeentch lies in the area of what we @ HHH have at our disposal.
We currently are capable of creating avi films and of converting them into
either .wmv or .asf. K and I have considered seeing into other file types,
like using Quicktime and others, the only problem lies in funding.

Though I do work at the Post Office and do make a decent amount of money, I
am not about ready to flush a lot of change in the direction of purchasing a
lot of software (perhaps even hardware) at the moment when I (and K) am
still in the learning stages of making efilms.

I would however be interested in knowing some more information from you,
privately of course, of where I could get the capabilites to make low
quality mp3s and the like.

At the same time, though low quality means smaller files, K and I are also
interested in providing a quality product to everyone.

That /is/ low quality. It's 120 minutes, more or less. I spent a decent
amount of time last year twiddling with settings to make what was a low
quality recording sound decent. This year we'll be doing it direct to
digital so the original quality should be higher, but it will be encoded at
a fairly low bitrate to keep download times.

I'll also probably split it into 4 files this year, assuming we can get
Mike to hush up for 10 seconds at a time so we don't interrupt any
important WotC bashing. <grin>

Hmm? Actually I was referring to the original post by Adam regarding the
audio portion of the Secrets of Shadowrun seminar. fnord.

It would probably mainly be a software/money issue. That and time since I
imagine the rendertime to convert file formats would be a pain in the ass.

Well there are a bazillion MP3 makers out there (I use AudioCatalyst). The
movies can be rendered out via Premiere. I could do that stuff if you
provide the source files. That would essentially let you post any wierd ass
combination of resolution and format you needed.

Well I hope so. >:)

So give people an option...

High quality big hugeomungo "don't try this unless you
have a high speed connection or your modem will burst
into flames" file
or
Low quality small "this shouldn't fry your modem too
badly unless you've got a 14.4 in which case, what the
heck are you doing on the internet" file

And get a quality where you don't understand what is being said so
you waste your time downloading it anyway. I'd rather not.

Here's a thought: Do you have CD-burning capability? Why not
offer something online and also put it on CDs? Just charge for
the CD and postage if you're worried about copyright issues,
and that way people can view the file without having to download
massive megabytes.

Not a perfect solution, but maybe a workable one.

Actually Rat, this is kind of humorous, as we *DO* have this ability and had
already given it some consideration. In fact, there will be more
information about this in the near future on HHH.
