Subject: Securetech armor bug ?

I've just bought the last printing of the SR3 rulebook (my first printing
was falling apart), and I've spotted this strange one...

The Secure Tech line of armored clothing is described as better... better
conceability for itselfs and hardware packed under it.

But it's, each time, cheaper than the non-securetech version. It's a point
over in availability, but with thoses TN that's nothing.

Am I missing something ?

Oh, well since I'm at it... do you remember where I can find the stats for
surveillance gear besides the rulebook ? I was looking for some kind of
pocket camera, and/or the small movable camera thing that SWAT use to look
under the doors; can't remember where I saw these.

It's been this way ever since the "secure clothing" line was first
published, in 1989 in the Street Samurai Catalog. Back then, the main
rulebook had the "armor clothing" type of body armor (Armor Clothing,
Armor Jacket, Armor Vest, etc.) and the SSC then added the Secure line
with better armor and lower cost -- Availability didn't exist yet, so
there was even less reason than now to keep using the armor from the main
rules.

SOTA: 2063, I think.

I can't quote a book on this for specifics, but I believe that the Secure
Tech line came out for the upper class, which was security conscious but
didn't want to look like the usual street types who wore armor
everywhere. The higher concealability was supposed to make it less likely
that it would be noticed by their friends and associates. In game terms,
this means that street contacts in my game will not treat you with as much
respect if you're wearing Secure Tech armor, since it's usually only worn
by status conscious corp types.

"Available in a full range of designer colors and styles", as the SSC put
it.

I believe the prices for Securetech Armor were designed to sell more Street
Samurai Catalogs. :)

Standard armored jackets and such are worn typically worn by security guards
who want the punks to know the guards mean business.

Also, the Securetech line can NOT accept modifications such as fire
resistance, etc.

I could be wrong, but I though it said somewhere that SecureTech armour
couldn't be layered with any other armour, because getting the better
concealability meant that the cut was different.
