Anyone out there know how the rules say to use a sequencer on a maglock?

On our last run my character, the security guy, was trying to get through
a keypad maglock. There was some debate as to the rules for how a sequencer
was used and whether or not the Electronics skill came into play. There
didn't seem to be any rules for it in the main book.

We ended up using one as a complementary skill to the other (I forget which).

Richard, I'm not absolutely positive here, but I believe it goes as follows:

infiltrator-person rolls his/her Electronics skill (Maglocks specialization)
against the security rating of the lock itself. The lock rolls it's security
rating against the rating of the maglock-passkey that is being attempted to
break into it. Successes vs. Successes who wins.

In our games, we often add the number of successes to appropriate security
sheathes for Matrix/Rigger purposes.

In our games, we also have "smartkeys" for those people that don't want to be
in the location of the break-in. For instance, put the "smartkey" upon a
drone with appropriate arms/limbs and have it perform the break-in. The key
has a "rating" and a "smartsystem rating" in this case. The
smartsystem
rating replaces the user for the purposes of game mechanics.

The rules on page 235 imply, to me, that once the technician has the casing
off the keypad, after a successful B/R test, then connecting the sequencer
requires no more tests and it just does its magic. Possibly, there should
be an Electronics skill test for the technician to connect the sequencer -
perhaps vs. half the key pad rating.

Similar for me. To keep it quick, I just say Electronics B/R vs. (key pad
rating + anti-tampering) to quietly get into the key pad's guts, followed
by an opposed test of (Electronics + sequencer rating) vs. key pad rating,
to open the door.

Not entirely correct. A person will have to make the Electronics (B/R) test
to remove the case as you have indicated. The sequencer would come into play
once it is attached (no test required) and then it comes down to an opposed
test between the sequencer and the maglock system using each other's ratings
as the Target number.

Note page 235, 2nd column, paragragh BEFORE the "Cardreaders" heading.

FASA likes to tac on the important rules at the end. :)

The rules for using a sequencer appear specifically in the top-right column
of p. 235 of the BBB3 (third paragraph from the top). In summary, the test
is an Opposed Test between the Rating of the sequencer and the Rating of
the maglock. The Electronics Skill serves as a Complementary Skill Test
(per p. 97, first paragraph in the right-hand column).
