What is the "^" symbol in the 500*(2/3)^3 mean?
******

Sorry about not explaining the "^3" notation and the reasoning behind it. A
number of good explanations of it already, so I will not duplicate that
effort.

******
Ok here's the problem, go through the Shadowrun Supplemental issues, I
believe it was issue 13 that someone put together an article that went
through and CORRECTED all of the heights and weights for all of the races,
the average troll based on muscle/bone density, size ratio, and descriptions
of their sizes in the book in relation to a human is 9'2" tall and 1083lbs
******

Sounds interesting, but I do not have any of them. Are they net
publications or are they actual paper? If they are on the net where can I
find them. Are these considered to be "cannon"? Even if they are the
reasons that 9'+ tall characters do not make sense are still valid. I think
people like playing this type of Trolls, but do not want to look at what the
disadvantages would be.

******
Well, some reinventing here could be interesting :). This article goes from
the principle that the _weights_ are wrong. One that takes the alternate
view (that the _heights_ are wrong) would be a good reference for those who
don't want to think too much about how their trolls' sizes affect
shadowrunning and normal life :).
******

I am glad you think so. My whole point was that everyone seems to fixate on
the Height. If all the TSS article does is detail what a better weight for
that would be then it is probably not all that interesting. I still hope to
get hold of it though.

******
Yea, but IMO those things are the *fun* in playing a Troll (or better GM
one). Both GM and player should talk about the results of being a Troll and
play it out, could be fun!
******

This is certainly true, but really apply to the 7.5' troll as well. The
restrictions on a 10' (cause what PC Trolls are "average") tall, 1200 lbs
individual would be UNPLAYABLE for any sort of long term campaign. So
instead what you end up with is some vague nod at the restrictions, but then
they go by the way side. I work with a fairly large coworker and we were
carpooling for a while. I had a mid-sized sedan and he could not fit
comfortably in the front passenger seat so had to ride in back with the
passenger seat all the way forward. Now that I have a Honda Del Sol (two
seat sport scar) he CANNOT physically ride with me. That is the sort of
limitation that Troll would face. That is Rolplayable and Fun. Only being
able to ride in Light Industrial Vehicles and constantly having to worry
about breaking through floors etc... would quickly become unworkable. It
could be cool to have this type of Troll as an NPC only meta-variant, but
the logistics of actually the restrictions of a 9-10' tall character are
ones that I am sure are ignored in 95%+ of games where Trolls are that big.

Ok I know I shouldn't reply from the top but this is only part of it so
*sticks tongue out*

If you want the TSS issues I can e-mail them to you privately (zipped of
course since they're all PDF's) or I'm sure someone on here can send you
a link to download them, I forget where I downloaded mine.....

If this is the case then we need to use the basis of the article and
then just drop the heights to something a little more sensical, I do
have issues with some of the heights but for the most part not very many
of them, the standard troll and the fomori are the only two that I can
think of off the top of my head that I'd make shorter but then I'd still
only make them about 8' on average, and perhaps even the fomori at 7'6"
on average.

actually it states that the average is 9'2" and about 1000lbs, and they
vary +/- 30% based on body and strength

Ok here's where you're getting a good (really good) point that my friend
makes all the time, now days it's hard to find a vehicle that someone
that's over 6' is comfortable riding in unless they like to lay their
seat back, an elf that's supposed to be anywhere close to 7' is going to
HATE finding a vehicle that's comfortable to ride in, orks will dislike
things, I think this is why they all ride motorcycles and become pissed
off go gangs, it's cause they can't get comfortable cars and trucks!
