1. INTRODUCTION

1.A What is SHADOWRN?
SHADOWRN is a discussion list for the role-playing game called Shadowrun,
which is published by FASA. Shadowrun takes place in Seattle 61 years in the
future. Cybernetics, Virtual Reality, and Biotechnology are available to the
public. Furthermore, Magic exists and is controlled by mages and shamans,
and mythical beings once again roam the land. Megacorporations, with the
power of small nations, rule the politics and hold the ultimate stranglehold
on the underclass. Surviving in the world of Shadowrun takes as much courage
as it does skill.
And perhaps just a little luck.

1.B How do I subscribe to SHADOWRN?
To subscribe, you must send a control message to the list processor at
listproc.itribe.net. To do this, send an email with the following:

TO: listserv@***tproc.itribe.net
SUB: <leave blank>
1st line: SUBscribe SHADOWRN <your real name>

In a little while you should get email that you have to respond to, to
confirm your subscription to the list. Reply to that as instructed, after
which you should begin getting regular postings.

1.C How do I post to SHADOWRN?
To post to SHADOWRN, you send your posting via email to
SHADOWRN@********.ITRIBE.NET. Make sure that you have read the Posting
Guidelines portion of this FAQ before you post to the list. (Failure to do
so will result in being thwapped. ;o)

1.D How do I unsubscribe from SHADOWRN?
To unsubscribe, you must send a control message to the list processor at
listproc.itribe.net. To do this, send email with the following:

TO: listserv@***tproc.itribe.net
SUB: <leave blank>
1st line: UNSUBscribe SHADOWRN

In a little while you should get email confirming your unsubscription
request.

1.E Other Important LISTSERV-LITE Commands.
There are many commands you can give to the listserv in order to change how
your subscription works.

TO: listserv@***tproc.itribe.net
SUB: <leave blank>

REView SHADOWRN
This command will ask the listserv to send you what your subscription
options are at that point in time. (Very good to use as a test/ping message)

SET SHADOWRN REPRO
This command will have the listserv include you in the distribution of any
posting you make (i.e., you get your own things back, too).
To stop receiving your own posts: SET SHADOWRN NOREPRO

SET SHADOWRN ACK
This is simply a confirmation of the posting you just made in the form of
an email saying 'Your post was successfully distributed to XXX people.'
To stop receiving confirmations: SET SHADOWRN NOACK

SET SHADOWRN NOMAIL
Will halt your receiving of postings. You will still be able to send
messages to the list. Set this if you are going away for a couple days, and
think your mail quota might be exceeded. (If your mail quota is exceeded,
there is an excellent chance you will return to find yourself no longer on
the list.)
To resume getting posts: SET SHADOWRN MAIL

SET SHADOWRN DIGEST
When this option is set, instead of all of the postings being delivered
separately, they will be delivered in one mailing at the close of the day
(in ITRIBE's time zone). This is helpful if the number of mailings become a
burden, also another way to reduce the volume of mailings. (But not size.)
To resume receiving separate postings: SET SHADOWRN MAIL

HELP
Sending this command will give you a listing and brief descriptions of all
available commands.

1.F Why am I getting deleted from the list for no reason?
99% of the time, the reason you are deleted from the list (by the
listowner) is for some reason mail is bouncing off of your account.
Usually this is caused by one of two reasons. Either A) your account is
filled and can't hold any more or B) for some reason your account is not
available (either the machine or your account is down). Once the problem has
been fixed (you are back on the net or have room), you are, of course, free
to join the list again.

1.G HELP! Mail from the list has stopped coming!
Mail has an annoying characteristic in that, while most of the time it is
instantaneous, there are times when it can take up to two weeks to go from
one computer to another that is located ten feet away (much like snail mail,
eh?). If mail suddenly suddenly stops coming, very likely a link is down
between you and the list, and as soon as that link comes back up, you will
get all of the old mailings.
A good thing to try before posting to the list that nothing is coming, is
the 'REV SHADOWRN' command to the listserv. This way you'll get a response
right away if the ITRIBE machines are up, and you won't annoy the list
members with 'test' messages.
Also note that the listowner won't be able to help at all in terms of mail
not arriving. All he can do is to verify that you are indeed subscribed,
anything beyond that is under the control of someone else.

2. THE OTHER ITRIBE MAILING LISTS

2.A SHADOWTK
SHADOWTK (Shadowtalk) is an interactive fiction mailing list based on
Shadowrun. Members of the list post as characters in genre, and by
responding to each other's posts "in character", stories are developed.
These stories may then be used by players and GMs alike as a basis for
contacts, NPCs, and adventure plots in their own campaigns.
For more info : Mark Imbracio <mark@******.net>

2.B PLOTD
PLOTD is a supplemental discussion list for SHADOWTK. The purpose of PLOTD
is to discuss (as the name obviously implies) plotlines. It also handles
discussion of administrative issuesin order to not clog SHADOWTK or SHADOWRN
with only remotely related issues.
For more info : Mark Imbracio <mark@******.net>

2.C NERPS
NERPS (Net Enhancements for Role Playing Shadowrun) is a mailing list that
serves as a committee base for a group of individuals spending time
organizing and writing up a series of net.shadowrun manuals. These manuals
contain everything from new races and spells to new technology and alternate
magic systems.
The current FAQs for NERPS are located at
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/NERPS%20FAQ%20A.txt and
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/NERPS%20FAQ%20B.txt or
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/index.html#nerps
They can also be gotten through email by sending Gurth an email with GIMME
NERPS (for both FAQs), GIMME FAQ A (for part A), or GIMME FAQ B (for part B)
in the subject line; the message body will be ignored as this is an
automated response.
For more info : Gurth <gurth@******.nl>

2.D SRCARD
SRCARD is a list for discussing the Shadowrun Trading Card Game, SRTCG,
which made it's debut at Gen Con in August of 1997. Foretelling an increase
in traffic on SHADOWRN, this list was created.
FAQ available at : http://coastnet.com/~dvixen/srtcg.html (both text and
html versions are linked from there) or
http://www.primenet.com/~gamemstr/srstuff/tcgfaq1.htm
For more info : Loki <gamemstr@********.com> or Lady Jestyr
<jestyr@*******.dialix.com.au>

2.E Subscribing to SHADOWTK, PLOTD, NERPS, and SRCARD.
Follow the format in part 1.B of the SHADOWRN FAQ, substituting SHADOWTK,
PLOTD, NERPS, or SRCARD for SHADOWRN.

2.F. Getting past logs via FTP
To get past logs for the different mailing lists, FTP to
listproc.itribe.net, login anonymous, and send your email as your password.
The directory the logs are found is /pub/listserv. To access the logs via
WWW, you can follow the links at http://www.itribe.net/shadowrun/home.html,
and there is a web interface for viewing past logs.

3. OTHER SHADOWRUN PLACES TO CHECK OUT

3.A FASA's Offical Shadowrun site.
http://www.fasa.com/Shadowrun/SRHOME.html (Do I really need to explain what
you will find at the official Shadowrun site???)

3.B Usenet Newsgroups
REC.GAMES.FRP.CYBER - set aside for discussion of the cyberpunk genre of
role-playing games. Discussions in this group include not only Shadowrun,
but also CyberSpace, CyberPunk 2020, GURPS Cyberpunk, and many others.

ALT.CYBERPUNK.* - This group hirarchy has little to do with Shadowrun, per
se, but they do have discussions of the cyberpunk genre of fiction and its
implications on current and future society.

ALT.MAGICK - This Usenet newsgroup, which may not be carried at all sites,
is for the discussion of magic/magick in "real life," in modern times.
Alt.magick is not specifically for role-playing information, but could shed
some light on what FASA would consider the more esoteric aspects of magical
theory.

3.C Undernet (IRC)
There are two channels on the Undernet for Shadowrun, #shadowrun, and
#shadowrun-game. The latter is for on line playing of games, while the
former is where most discussions take place. 'Us.Undernet.Org' will toss you
on a random American server, although it is recommended to pick a server
closer to you.
For more info : Wildangle <fro@***.ab.ca>

3.D Shadowrun Web Ring
Lady Jestyr has set up a ring of pages related to Shadowrun. And just
recently added, the official FASA Shadowrun site!
Located at : http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/1503
For more info : Lady Jestyr <jestyr@*******.dialix.com.au>

3.E The Shadowrun Archive
The best site for anything Shadowrun, bar none.
Located at : http://www.interware.it/shadowrun
For more info : Paolo Marcucci <paolo@*********.it>

3.F The ShadowFAQ
Not to be confused with the ShadowRN FAQ, (what you are reading) the
ShadowFAQ contains a number of official and unofficial
answers to a wide variety of frequently asked Shadowrun questions. The site
also has an official link graphic, if you link to it from a page.
The ShadowFAQ has a section giving instructions for linking.
