Hey, does anyone know what is going on with the ShadowRN t-shirt?
Has anyone gotten their shirt?

Is Faux Pas still around on the list?

What's up?

Well according to what I have been able to find out..He went and got
married and put everything on the back burner so to speak.. I've
gotten a reply from him before GenCon but that was the last I heard

I keep hoping that maybe with the UPS strike, it just was sent late, but
every passing day seems to kill that hope.

Well then, your information is a lot more update then mine. Last I
talked to him, was when I rejoined the list not too long ago.

Faux Pas is currently moving up to New York City. He's having trouble
finding a place to live right now. He and his new wife are currently
crashing at her uncles. As I understanmd it the T-shirts are printed and
are ready to go. They would have ghone out sooner except for the UPS
strike, then the wedding itself.

I know this probably doesn't help, but you haven't been stiffed.

I know that. I wouldn't ever imply such a thing of Thomas; just
concerned and really wanting my shirt. That's all.

Thanks for the reply.

So they will be shipped soon then?

Good Point. I guess when I saw the Monkey one, I just couldn't
figure out the logistics (I still haven't, unless the monkey is

Guess what time it is? It's time to start planning the ShadowRN T-shirt,
if we plan on producing one by GenCon 2000.

As the North American producer of the 99 T-shirt, I thought I'd get the
ball rolling and try to get things off to a structured start. All of the
following is IMHO, based on lessons I learned from last year.

The month of March should be spent tossing ideas back and forth, and
potential T-shirt producers should make themselves known.

Durring the first couple of weeks of April artists should develop those
ideas that sparked their creativity and put them up for everyone to see.

All of the proposals should be voted during the middle of April. Last year
the vote took place at the end of May, with orders and checks due by the
end of June, and I was hard pressed to produce the T-shirts on time (I did
it, but it was very stressful).

All of the potential producers should go out and get price quotes by the
end of April.

On May 1st the producers should be selected by a vote of the list members.

Orders and checks should be mailed to the producers by June 1st.

The producers should have the T-shirts produced and mailed by the end of June.

The following are some thoughts I've had since producing the shirt.

Having multiple producers last year worked great, IMHO. I didn't have to
deal with international orders, and the list members in Europe and
Australia actually got their T-shirts in a reasonable amount of time. I
strongly recommend we ask for volunteers in Europe and Australia again.

I don't suggest putting the names of the purchaser's on the back of the
shirt. This seems to create an us/them feeling (and less T-shirt buyers),
and there's always a few people who swear they'll order a shirt, and never
do buy a shirt and this can create more animosity. I think list member
names on the back of the shirt should be all or nothing. And since there's
no way we can legibly cram 400+ names on the back of a shirt, I vote for no
names on the back of the shirt.

I strongly suggest black or white designs/art. Last year's T-shirt only
used one color, but the T-shirt shop had to mix two colors to create that
color, and we were subsequently charged for two colors.

If you are a producer and T-shirt shop shows the slightest sign of techno
cluelesness (they don't know how to resize a .jpg picture) don't walk, run
away.

The T-shirt producer should be allowed to make a bit of profit. Call it a
stress fee. Last year I paid $30 (that's how much I lost on the deal) for
two months of stress. And even though it was high quality stress, I'm not
paying for stress again.

And finally, no one should take it personally if their idea(s) are not
accepted by the rest of the list. Let's try to keep the T-shirt discussion
as friendly as possible this year :)

Okay David, you're ball then IMO as well. I will however be looking for the
information I had concerning "Credit Cards" for all producers. No promises,
but if I can find it, I'll send you guys the information you'd need.

I second the vote for a black and white t-shirt, as well, unless we make it a single
primary color (which should alleviate the whole "two-color charge for a single
color"). I won't claim to know anything about producing t-shirts, so I'll remain
silent on that point. For starters, however, I suggest the following:

A webpage available with images of previous years t-shirts so we all have an idea of
what we are talking about. (If there is one already, what is the URL?)

A list of names is right out, are there any other things which _cannot_ be done?

Anything I am forgetting?

Already I thought of something I missed. On the webpage for the previous years
t-shirts, perhaps we could also add their cost so that we know what we can get for
how much. Or would that be too much to ask at this point?

It's to much to ask at this point :)

The cost is going to depend on the number of images (front or front &
back), the number of colors required per image, the color/type of the
T-shirt, whoever ends up producing it (I got the T-shirts printed for a
pretty good price, but it was $4-5 more than the 98 shirt).

I suggest just focusing on design/art ideas at this point. After the
design/art and T-shirt color have been selected, then it's up to the
volunteer producers to put in a bid. *Then* we should start talking about
price.

FWIW, the price should be between $10-20.

"Shadow

Actually, if you go to other locations within the HHH website (ShadowRN link for
instance), you'll find pics of Gencon 99' and several people with the shirt that Dave,
Gurth and LadyJ all supervised. As for images from the previous year ... look at the
"logo" that we've got ShadowRN at the top of the navbar in that area as well.
See the scroll work circle??? That is the shirt front from the previous year.

Well, I haven't caught up with the rest of this discussion yet, and
probably won't for a couple of days, but I hereby volunteer to do the
Australian production run again. It was smooth sailing last year and I
think all the Aussies were happy with the results, so if you want me to do
it again I'm happy to do so.

Lady J did a fantastic job of the shirts last year, and has my vote
for this years run of the australian production.

For my 2c. I'm with Anders on the shirt colour thing. I dont mind
having a shirt that costs me a little more if it gives us a better
shirt. The 99 SRN shirt logo was really well designed, and you can
wear it almost anywhere. I'd think for a few more dollars, allowing
the designer a little more creative license is well worth it.

On another point, at first I was a little peeved about the idea of the
names not going on the back, as I think it is a great idea. However,
if an us/them mentality is what it avoids, I'm cool with that, but on
a vote I'd still say put the names on :>

Thanks for listening.

I say we should have the names on the back. The only real reason is
nostalgia, I guess -- you can look at your shirt some time later and think
back to the people who were on the list at the time :)

This can be avoided by first finding out how they charge for colors, and
then use that to our advantage. The green printing required a white
undercoat, right? So a design that used green and white would have been
possible at no extra cost (like for the '94 and '95 shirts).

Sven de Herdt did last year's shirt, not me. The only list T-shirts I was
actively involved in, were the 1995 shirt (for which I did the design, not
the printing) and the GridSec shirt that Dvixen, David, Marc, and I have.

I think that the names definitely have to be there. It's like a high school
graduation shirt. You want it to be something you can look back at etc. As
for the us/them mentality, well that's exactly what it is. The people who
pay for a shirt and the people who don't. It's no good trying to pretend
it's any different :)

Ah, well that still makes sense if Sven is up to the challenge again this
year. I might go with trying to work out an arrangement with you or him then
towards getting certain European's their shirts this year still (see other
post by me).

First of all my appologies for the late response, but I was on holiday last
week. Didn't switch to no-mail though, because I didn't want to miss
anything.

I am willing to volunteer again for this years printing, but ONLY if there's
a bit more response from the European listmembers.
Last year I called about 10 printers in my neighbourhood and they all had a
minimum amount to print, mostly started from 21 t-shirts. Since last year I
only received about 16 orders for shirts, I was left with about 5 more
shirts.
It didn't really bother me at the moment, so I don't want to complain about
it. The only thing is that I don't want to be stuck with 5 shirt every
year.

Perhaps we a short compilation could be made of the amount of shirts that
will be ordered?

According to Sven De Herdt, at 17:55 on 14 Mar 00, the word on the street

Don't forget to halve the number of responses you get to make an estimate
of the number of shirts that will actually be ordered.

Well Sven, this American is going to likely be ordering 2-3 of 'em from you,
should things go through accordingly. They are for someone who's shirts I
sent a couple years back (twice) never made it to him.
