I admit that I have not been playing shadowrun for very long (only about 1
year). I was wondering what people thought of the security sections in the
books? How are the runners suppose to get some of the security modifications
for, say their vehicles? It would not be pratical to just steal these as it
would take way to much time to "unhook" the equipment from the vehicles that
it might be in. Not to mention that the corps might get a little upset about
the fact that some breeders and trogs are stealing their equipment. How do
the runners get this stuff? Any ideas?

If your talking about the heavy duty gear, and how to buy it... that's
one of the many wonderful uses for fixers... it'll cost more than it says in
the book, of course, but hey... ya get what you pay for... there are also other
possibilities, like a decker ordering something through a company and having it
delivered to his front door, etc...

The only answer to getting items that a runner needs is through
a Fixer. He/She should be able to get whatever you need, be it modifications
for a security systems, ammo for that gun that the city council ruled illegal
or a nice simple anii-tank gun that you wanted for Christmas, but Santa
didn't bring you.
But remember, as always chummer, things in the Shadows have a price
and they come cheap.

I'm looking for some colorful chracters to add to my game, not
just the regular contacts or cannon fodder, something to bring more life
back into my game...anyone care to help me out.

And keep this foremost in your mem-banks, kiddies: cops are GOING to notice
you carrying all that neat-o heavy hardware around. My players thought
it was great to have machineguns until they tried carrying them around the
train station in San Fran. *sigh* They ran like hell when the I-Marines

Sure. How about we post 'em to this list? I mean, I'm sure everybody'd

Well, chummer, as far as I know from the way that we've always played
the assault cannon could get a shot off per action... of course the net damage
it would usually do wouldn't compare to what you could get off of a vindicator
minigun, but the blasts from the assault cannon let the team I usually GM for
(they have very little concept of the term subtle) create back doors in various
buildings... helluva way to make an entrance--send the rigger in a chopper to
attack the front of the building, distracting security, and then send the rest
of the team around back to open up a new door... worked pretty well for 'em the
first 2 times they tried it, after that... (insert hideous GM laughter here)

I am trying to download a file from Genie but I can't find what
directory it is in. The file(s) is the Shadowrun Second Edition from FASA. I
believe it consists of several different files.
If I could get at least the name of the directory I would be very
grateful. The actual names of the files would be even better.
I am kinda limited on time.

Does anyone ever actually go to the #shadowrun room on IRC? Every time
I'm there it's totally empty. I think it would be a great alternate
place for discussion. IMO of course.

Gotta step in here. It's not "official", but it's the most used and has
the most recognized people on it.. I mean, where else can you find everyone
who runs the Shadowrun Archive in one place at one time? :-)

It's not FASA official though, although it -is- the best place to get
information about Shadowrun in any live chat medium.

Really simple -- you'll need an IRC client, and a server address. If you're
using windows, I recommend mIRC which can be found at www.mirc.com. If you
use another OS, it shouldn't be hard to find a client on any well stocked
shareware site dedicated to
your OS.

After intalling your IRC client, all
you need to do is fill in the info it requires (A nickname, "real" name,
etc), and then connect to a Undernet server. Undernet org servers all end
in undernet.org, and any good IRC client should have a list of them.

A few
sample Undernet servers:
StLouis.MO.US.UnderNet.org,
Arlington.VA.US.Undernet.Org, NewBrunswick.NJ.US.Undernet.Org, and since
you're on AOL, undernet.irc.aol.com should connect you to AOLs Undernet
server.

After you connect, you'll get a Message of the Day and some stats,
then just type "/join #Shadowrun", without the quotes, and you're there!

EfNet #Shadowrun flat out sucks. No one ever talks, or does anything, and there are no one
but ops there usually. UnderNet #Shadowrun is the only real SR Channel on Irc. (I'm not
saying that to flatter y'all... well.. maybe I am :D )

Well, I WAS trying to be tactful, but since you brought it up, you're
absolutely right. It sucks. No one there ever talks, and when they do,
they're total lamers. And rude, too. :)

I feel I should point something out to Mr. Schizi. As he is an AOL user, and
he joins the AOL server, he will NOT be able to access the Undernet #shadowrun
channel. If he wants to gain access to the correct version of #shadowrun, he
should make certain that he is using the correct server.

I feel I should point something out. You're wrong. If he uses
undernet.irc.aol.com he will indeed be able to access the correct
"version" of #shadowrun. As an Op on #shadowrun and an IRC Operator
on the aforementioned server, I believe I have the background to know
of such things.

Using washington.dc.us.undernet.org should also work, BTW. It's also
run by AOL and allows AOL users.

I'm not an Op, but I pretty much live on the channel. You can find me
in there pretty much any time of the day. There are also several other non
Op types that have no lives and spend great amounts of time in there as
well.

You _ARE_ going to the channel on Undernet, right? There's ususally someone
there all the time, because it has users on globally. I'm usually on all
day and most of the night (I love working online) and there are always
people on.

Well, I use DALnet. I go to #shadowland instead of #shadowrun though
(#shadowrun is just occupied by a few bots who are wholy designed to sit

I think that you covered it pretty well. For someone who doesn't know
anything about SR, this would be a good introduction.

You might want to try to define some of the undefined terms such as
Triple-AAA and Barrens, preferrably in the same manner as you have defined
other game specific terms.

I believe that the phrase is "so ka", but don't quote me :-). (At least, I'm
pretty sure it isn't "soy" ;-))
