This is an update on the Shadowrun Academy Awards that I'm running.
Don't worry if everything below this has > symbols in front of it. It's
still current. I'm sending this to let those who missed it the first
time know about it and to let everyone else see a couple of changes that
have been made.

Basically, I want to find out everyone's favourite Shadowrun product
and, hopefully, get a Hall of Fame.

The categories are...

Best Adventure (inc. any PURE module - e.g. not including the NAN
sourcebooks, or Mob War)
Best Adventure/Sourcebook (i.e. anything with an adventure (or five) in
it that doesn't fall into the above category - inc. Mob War, NAN
sourcebooks, Blood in the Boardroom)
Best Novel
Best People, Place and Thingy Sourcebook (e.g. Cyberpirates, Tir
Tairngire, Threats)
Best Rules Sourcebook (e.g. BBB1, 2 and 3, Rigger 2, Awakenings)
Best Shadowrun Product (this is an overall category - just your absolute
favourite Shadowrun product EVER).

Mail me privately if you wish to vote. If you have any ideas for
categories you think I've forgotten, let me know. If you have any ideas
for an award name better than the one below, let me know.

I'll compile the results and figure out the top five in each category.
The Hall of Fame will consist of the top product in each category. If
you want to know the results, let me know. I'm not sure if GridSec would
appreciate me posting them on the list. Guys? Can I?

I'll be running this until the end of February or thereabouts. There
will be NO awards unless I get at least 25 voters. Otherwise its just
REALLY pathetic. :)

their ankles in full moon - The Dunkies...*

P.S. Anyone who can come up with a better name for Shadowrun Academy
Awards trophies than I did gets...a sloppy kiss and a free
SKutRing...right now, it seems that poor, old Scott Wheelock is going to
get done for this. :)

You know what I've just realised? What with my enforced layoff, I'd
totally forgotten about the Academy Awards.

So here we are again, with another rundown on the categories. Voting is
open until mid-May, so keep those votes rolling in.

If you've already voted, don't worry - I've still got them.

========ºsically, I want to find out everyone's favourite Shadowrun product

sourcebooks, Blood in the Boardroom, Universal Brotherhood)
Best Novel
Best People, Place and Thingy Sourcebook (e.g. Cyberpirates, Tir
Tairngire, Threats)
Best Rules Sourcebook (e.g. BBB1, 2 and 3, Rigger 2, Awakenings)
Best Shadowrun Product (this is an overall category - just your
absolute favourite Shadowrun product EVER).

And, just for fun, the Hall of Infamy..

Worst Shadowrun Product Ever (aka Hall of Infamy - another overall
category - the Shadowrun product you detest most).

Mail me privately if you wish to vote. If you have any ideas for
categories you think I've forgotten, let me know. If you have any ideas

Would this be different from best artist? The books all have different
artists, some of which I Hate.
If it's just which book, I'd have to say Bug City. Desolation, baby...
that's the stuff (I've already voted on everything else, so just add that
vote in there).

Okay, okay.

Thanks to Murder-boy and DGhost, we have TWO more categories, in
addition to the 'Best Art in a Book' mentioned previously.

Favourite Shadowrun Artist - self explanatory
Best Fiction in a Sourcebook - this covers ANY sourcebook with
fictional material - as opposed to game material - in it (a short
story, the 'Shadowland logs' etc.)

Thanks to Roger Nicholls, we have something ELSE to vote on.

He suggested the Shadowrun Infamy Nominations as the name for the
awards - the SINs

So the vote is,

What should the awards be called? Dunkies or SINs?

Something I forgot to mention about voting. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
PLEASE make sure you send your votes to me privately. I'm going to be
going nomail on Wednesday (I'll be away from mail for 5 days - that's
right! I'm off to Brisbane and those crazy Brisbanite SRners!), so if
you post to the list, I WILL NOT GET IT.

Technically, people, the voting is closed. I got over 40 votes - which
I'm quite pleased with.

Just one problem.

As I believe I mentioned last week, my email server crashed hard. Fact
is, I was keeping the votes on it - and nowhere else. The other fact is
that ALL data on the server was lost.

In other words, I lost ALL the votes, except Twist's - because he sent
it in after the crash.

Anyway, I don't want to give up on the concept (I'd actually like to
make it an annual event), so if you've voted, could you please send me
a copy of your votes? And if you don't have your votes, please vote
again. I'll be posting the categories to the list again for your
reference.

Seeing how things have turned out, if anyone HASN'T voted and would
like to, I'm opening the polls again. :)

Thanks, Twist.

Btw, if anyone saved the original post(s) with all the categories and
all the explanations of what each category represents, could you send
it to me and/or the list. That seems to be another thing I've lost.

Okay, guys, this is the second last day to get your
votes in, technically. In reality, I'll be here
tomorrow, but then we have a long weekend, so I'll be
away for the next three days. So you have 5 days left!
I won't be accepting any votes that come AFTER I get
back next week. So hurry up!

> Get your votes in now!!! If you've voted previously,
check the categories anyway. Some of them may be new
to you, or your votes may have changed.

Well, it’s all over bar the shooting in this year’s
First Annual Shadowrun Academy Awards. Thanks go to
everyone who voted. And now we get to the interesting
stuff...the awards themselves...

In the category of Best Adventure, we have a clear-cut
winner. Harlequin takes the award with 48.5% of the
vote (15 votes). In a distant second comes Harlequin’s
Back, with 22.5% (7 votes) and in third, Queen
Euphoria with 16% (5 votes).

Nearly as dominating, with 44% of the votes (15) comes
Universal Brotherhood, taking out the Best
Adventure/Sourcebook easily from Blood in the
Boardroom (26.5% – 9 votes) and Renraku Arcology:
Shutdown on 23.5% (8 votes).

In a close fought battle, 2XS just edged out Burning
Bright for the title of Best Novel, garnering 29.5%
(10 votes), versus 26.5% (9 votes). Coming in third
was a surprise runner-up, the Dragon Heart Saga, on
14.5% (5 votes).

Another close run was Best People, Place and Thingy
Sourcebook, with Bug City taking the award on 28.5%
(10 votes). Close behind was Portfolio of a Dragon on
23% (8 votes). And not too far away in third place
came this commentator’s favourite – Threats, with
14.5% (5 votes).

In the hardest fought match-up of the year, the award
for Best Rules Sourcebook was taken out by Awakenings
on 27% (10 votes) *whistle, cheer!*. Breathing hard
down its neck was Magic in the Shadows, with 24.5% (9
votes). And in a tie for third, Shadowrun 3rd Edition
and Virtual Realities 2.0 on 19% (7 votes apiece)! I
think it’s pretty clear that magic stole the show in
this category.

A clear favourite in the Best Artwork in a Shadowrun
Book category was Shadowrun 2nd Edition, with 39.5% of
the vote (13). Tir Tairngire came next on 24% (8
votes) with Bug City a close third on 18% (6 votes).

By far the most convincing win of the year came in the
Favourite Shadowrun Artist category. Taking out the
award this year was Tim Bradstreet, with a whopping
53.5% of the vote (16 votes). In a tie for second were
Peter Bergting, Jeff Laubenstein and Louis Royo, all
with 13.5% (4 votes).

The Best Fiction in a Sourcebook was deemed to have
been contained in Universal Brotherhood – 25.5% (9
votes). In another tie for second came Fields of Fire
and Renraku Arcology: Shutdown, both on 17% (6 votes).

Another big winner came in the Best Actor in a
Shadowrun Drama category, with Derek ‘Dirk’ Montgomery
taking the award with a convincing 40% (14 votes).
Second and third were hotly contested, with the Dodger
on 14.5% (5 votes) just edging out Harlequin and
Lofwyr, both on 11.5% (4 votes).

And at the business end of the evening, this year’s
Hall of Fame winner, the Best Shadowrun Product ever,
is Shadowrun 3rd Edition, on 34.5% (12 votes). Second
place was again a three-way tie, with Bug City, Fields
of Fire and Universal Brotherhood all vying for
honours on 14.5% (5 votes).

Lastly, we come to the Hall of Infamy – the Worst
Shadowrun Product Ever. This dubious award was shared
by DMZ and Prime Runners, both taking 20% of the vote
(7 votes). Third place this year went to Shadowboxer,
close behind the “winners” on 17% (6 votes).

And there you have it. The winners – and losers? – at
this year’s Shadowrun Academy Awards. We look forward
to having you with us again next year. Bye for now!

You haven't heard of Dirk Montgomery, Dodger, DMZ, _and_ Prime
Runners? Yikes. Look to the novel 2XS for Dirk, the Secrets of Power
Trilogy for Dodger (famous core character); the last two are Shadowrun
supplements.
Lowwyr is a dragon (you knew that, hopefully) mentioned in every SR
product ever. He runs Saeder-Krupp, is fiendishly intelligent, a
control-freak to the point of killing everyone who's ever bothered him
(if you believe Threats), and a counterpoint to Dunkelzahn (sp?) in his
attitudes toward humans. More information can be obtained by reading
lots of sourcebooks (Threats has a section devoted to him).

'Twas my brainchiled and I DO hope to make it a more
or less annual event. I actually started it last year,
but due to a few difficulties (enforced absence from
the list, then MAJOR forgetfulness on my part), the
nominations only finished a while ago and the second
round voting only finished last week.

Dodger also makes appearances in a) the novel Striper,
b) the novel Just Compensation and c) the
adventure/sourcebook Renraku Arcology: Shutdown.

And the introductory story in the first edition of the core rulebook,
"A Night on the Town". As that introductory story was the basis for
the cover art on the first two editions, Dodger also appears on the
cover (He's the elf decker with the program carrier cyberware popping
