Ok, I thought I'd throw this out and see if anyone had any ideas. I'm going
to be starting a Shadowrun campaign very soon, but with a bit of a twist. I
plan to run it concurrent with a Earthdawn campaign, with the hook that the
Shadowrunners are going to be the reencarnations of the Earthdawn
characters. I plan on asking the players to come up with some common point
in the background of both of their characters that correspond. However, I'm
not sure how I could easily tie the two settings together in this sort of
campaign in a way that makes the characters feel personally involved.

First of all I'd have the runners in the modern area that Earthdawn was set
(southern Russia wasn't it?). Have some of their work set around unusual
archaeological digs where they suffer strange flashbacks, which might give
the players clues about what they can do in the Earthdawn campaign, sort of
a self-fulfilling prophesy. The flashback says they did it and got rewarded,
so in Earthdawn they do it to get the reward, so the flashback becomes what
actually happened.

Having the characters in Shadowrun find the tombs of their Earthdawn
characters could be poignant. It would affect the Earthdawn game when the
player knows their character will die and be buried over there, but not how
or when. Old age or an arrow in the back 5 minutes from now?
