WAASSUUP!

The Cowboy is back after a lengthy hiatus into the land of 3eD&D, an
expensive new place fraught with many perils. Two questions:

1. Anybody got anything on a good Shadowrun/GURPS conversion? I did some
work on one of my own,
and I'd kinda like to have something to cross-check.

2. Where the heck is everybody? I've gotten maybe 10 posts all day from
maybe 5 of you. I recall this list
having more traffic than that, though DND-L has jaded me a bit (300-400
posts a day).

I'm sure someone has, and will let you know.

I think several people are gearing up for GenCon. That, and the ShadowRN
topics are coming and going like waves lately. Give it a few days and some
topic will spark a small flood of email :)

On that note, what's the deal with GURPS, anyway? I've never even seen
it, but I get the idea it's sort of a "here are the rules, use them for any
setting" type thing. Is that so? Is it a _good_ rules system?

Dunno. It gets busy, it tapers off. I went away for a week and came
back to 608 messages, so I guess it's running about 80-90 per day. Maybe
there's simply nothing to talk about anymore.

Time to rehash old topics. If I wanted to enchant orichalcum bullets
with alternate enchanting rules and spray them full-auto, would they be
able to pierce astral barriers, could I ground spells through them, what
autofire rule system should I use, what calibre would 8M translate into,
could I hit a Stealth-using, troll, bouncer Adept, and what if I fired them
into space from a Stonewall Main Battle Tank's rail-gun? Well?

It actually is a good rules system. You can check out the lite version of
the rules at http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/lite/gurpslit.pdf

GURPS probably has the best player support of any RPG, due to the openness
of SJGames web site. A $15 a year subscription to Pyramid's online
magazine grants you download access for *all* of the playtest copies of
upcoming source books and rule books. And if they use a contribution of
yours, they compensate you (either with a little money, or credit toward
their products). Their message boards are also very active. All in all
SJGames is a slick operation.

Many of the old-timer you may remember (depending on whether it's a few
months or a few years since you were last here -- I remember your name, but
not when it was you posted frequently) seem to have moved on, or at least
gone into lurk mode :/ That, and those bloody WWW-forums -- the few times I
look at how many posts there are there, I can't help thinking that's to the
cost of this list.

No, I suppose so and that's sick and twisted, SR3 base, RTFM, sure if you
make your roll, and the enchantment would stop working when it got out of
the manasphere. How's that?

Depends whether the Main Battle Tank is driven by an olt-timer cybered
Woodchuck who thinks sammies are better than adepts and whether magic is
real I guess...

I think there is only one fitting response to this entire thread, one we've

Thank you, I needed that :).

Martin
- First thwap in two years, no wonder I felt so sleepy. Nothing wakes
you up like getting thwapped with a 100 year old carp -

< snip ASCII carp>

<rubbing face>

Oww. Now I gotta spend the rest of the afternoon digging fish-scales
outta my cheek...

That was such a nice picture, BTW. It's feels kinda good to be thwapped
by someone who obviously put some thought into it. I mean, nowadays most
people go down to Wal-Mart, pick up a bargain carp and a cheap Hallmark
card, and tell themselves that's good enough. Where's the love gone?

On another note, I've gone and derailed Cowboy's nice little topic. Bad
Boonie! Everyone, quickly now, start dicussing where he might be able to
find a good Shadowrun/GURPS conversion. Hup-hup, snap to it!

Certainly I put some thought in it. Mostly it was along the lines of,
"Where did I put the file with the thwaps I saved? Was it this directory?
No. Then this one, maybe?" :)

I have a slight disadvantage there in that I've never played or read GURPS,
so thwapping you for derailing Cowboy's thread is about the best I can do
here :)
