I had in mind an admittedly massive project. An overarching index of
all the SR material. Thought of it b/c I'm reading Shadows of North
America, but I haven't played in awhile. I've lost track of alot of
stuff (details mostly, like what exactly did Ghostwalker do besides stir
up trouble in Denver, etc), and I'm not sure which books to look in for
what info. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone's done anything like that,
or has ever thought about it.

I've thought about it ;) But time and desire to actually do it are lacking.
If I had the desire I would try to enlist the help of as many people as
possible, making a list of the books and chapters and ask people to
volunteer to sign up to index one chapter at a time.

I've done something somewhat similar. A Quick Start book that I've made
for character creation using the standard rules and limitations. It has
everything a beginning character would be allowed to have based on
availability limits and whatnot. I've never really put it up online though
because all I did was transpose word for word from the books all the
material necessary from each book. Plaigarism is a no-no! LoL! But I just
use it for my own purposes so that instead of having to drag out the main
sourcebook, the Cannon Companion, Fields of Fire, Cybertechnology,
Shadowtech, Magic in the Shadows, Awakenings, AND the Grimoire I've just got
this one big black binder with everything necessary from all of the above
and a few tasty treats from online.

If that's what you're thinking of doing it's definitely massive. It
took me months to compile my Quick Start guide. I'd offer to post it up but
I doubt we could get the clearance for something like that...

According to David Buehrer, on Sunday 16 May 2004 15:19 the word on the
street was...

My advice would be to first find a way to assure these volunteers actually
do what you ask of them -- and only _then_ start thinking about what it is
you actually want them to do.

I have thought about it quite a bit. I no longer care so much, but when
I did, I started toying with this idea:

http://www.divnull.com/isis/

Never went anywhere, largely because I could not get a public source
control server set up (SourceForge balked because of concerns that the
information would be copyright infringement, which it may in fact be).

I've thought since about a different approach, making all the data
entry into an on-line form, so that anyone could throw some info up
when they wanted to. (This is more of an idea for my Sixth World site,
really, but could work for this as well.) Using Keel, this would not be
too difficult, probably. I've had most of my desire to give free time
to Shadowrun sucked out of me, though, so I doubt I'll ever do this.
