And now for something completely different....

1. Music should engender or develop the emotion of a scene or assist in the
fostering of a certain mood.

2. Some maintain that music must embrace some degree of "chutspah," for
want of a better term. Not necessarily true, but such is the want of
contemporary cinematic composers. There are scenes in which one does
not wish o'erpowering emotion or sentimentality yet the mood requires
support from atmospheric music.

/Paraphrased/ from "Immortal Beloved"

"What do you think, Schindler?"

"It exalts."

"Nonsense. Music does not exhalt. When you hear a march, do you exhalt?
No. You march. When you hear a waltz, you dance. Music allows the
audience access into the composer's mental state ... like hypnosis."

The Reverend always felt was the ultimate role-playing song, or should I say,
ROLL-playing song was:

Rush Roll the Bones

Well, from Soundtracks, recommended selections . . . (with highlights)

Army of Darkness Main Title, Army of the Dead, Manly Men
Bram Stoker's Dracula Main Title, The Hunters, The Storm,
Conan the Barbarian Anvil of Crom, Riders of Doom,
Hunt for Red October
Last of the Mohicans Promontory
Lord of the Rings
The Shadow

Star Trek II Main Title
Star Trek III Klingons, Escape
Star Trek VI Main Title,

Star Wars }
The Empire Strikes Back } Battle Sequences, plus the Imperial March,
Return of the Jedi } Main Title, and Throne Room scene.

Terminator 2 Main Title especially

I am also to understand that _Glory_'s and _Stargate's_ soundtracks are
quite interesting.

J.S. Bach Toccata & Fugue in D Minor
Ludwig van Beethoven 5th Symphony -- First Movement
9th Symphony -- Second and Fourth Movements
Hector Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique -- 3rd & 4th Movements
Edvard Grieg In the Hall of the Mountain King
George F. Handel Messiah -- Halleiujah Chorus
Holst Mars, Bringer of War
Mercury, the Messenger
Uranus, the Magician
Khatchaturian Sabre Dance
Modest Moussorgsky Night on Bald Mountain
Carl Orff Carmina Burana
Igor Stravinsky Rites of Spring
Vivaldi Four Seasons
Richard Wagner Ride of the Valkyries -- Die Walkuere
Siegfried's Funeral March -- Goetterdaemmerung
Guiseppe Verdi Anvil Chorus
Suppe' Light Cavalry Overture
Tchaikovsky Marche Slave
Rossini William Tell Overture

Those are ones I can call to mind at the moment. Certainly,
there is a broad range of emotion embraced in the above works, but the
musical accompaniment requirements can differ dramatically according to
the atmosphere demanded by a particular scene.

Only problem with using soundtracks from well-known movies is that,
with certain groups, your game will degenerate into all the players
reciting lines from the scene in question.

I had an excellent tape some time ago, which was actually a selection
of themes done by a professional movie soundtrack composer that were
never used for anything, as far as I know. I think you can buy such
"generic soundtracks" but I don't know of any off-hand....
