>So, what to buy a shadowrunner for their birthday?

I don't know about that, however, on my birthday one year where I went to a
game instead of having a party, my character was awarded 10 karma as a
birthday present.

So, what to buy a shadowrunner for their birthday? This question came up
when our group decided to pool their money and buy a present for the teams
decker for her birthday. This led on to what you would buy for people in
this line of work.

We came up with: fluffy dice and pine car freshener for the rigger, years
subscription to What Gun magazine and a clip of APDS (in our games it takes
about 6 months to get) for the Sammie, Jackie Chan films for the adept, and
we finally bought the decker an indoor tanning bed and supply of sunscreen
as she was looking a bit pale. Tan *AND* deck Mitsuhama at the same time. ;)

Anyone think of any other ideas? Looking to make a list of them like the
'You Might Be a SR Gamer If...' thread to post on my website that I'm
building. Suggestions don't have to be too serious either.

Oh, and just to give this a slight hint of legitimacy, can you also say how
much your groups play downtime- when your PC's aren't running or planning
the run, their free time.

Thanks for any suggestions.

It could make an interesting adventure thread too...a particularly rough run
that coincides with a member of the team's birthday. ("Ooooh......I can't
break into the shutdown Arc today...it's my freakin' birthday!") There's also
a very...jumpy...sammie in my group--perhaps a surprise party is on order. >:)

Now this gives me an idea... Give the CHARACTERS birthdays! Even roleplay
the parties if you want... Beforehand the other characters could do
individual runs just birthday shopping... Just a fun diversion from the
regular blast and die way of life.

Let's see, Christmas 2060...

Adept; mage sword with a sustaning focus as the handle.
Decker; a programme, the nature of which escapes me.
Cat Shaman; a bottle of fine elven wine, she also got an armored mink coat
from her father.

A better list of items was the presents the team got from a dragon they
helped out.

Adept; _Old_ Greatsword bearing the symbol of the clan Cambell.
Hitman; very nice western acoustic guitar with silver machine heads and
other niceities.
Cat Shaman; an original copy of Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats that was
a present from TS Elliot to one of his god children.

Birthday presents?

Ooh. C'mon...getting the decker useful software? Nah! This is <insert your
favorite year here>...3D Matrix Pong!

It wasn't his birthday, but we did get a troll street sammy some of those
tassles for the handlebars of his Scorpion. Metallic green and gold. We
thought they made an interesting fashion statement.

Not sure about birthday, but we've done a Christmas party/gift swap...My main
character carved a wooden owl for the owl shaman in the group, gave an antique
pocket knife to her swordsmanship instructor, a bottle of high-quality whiskey
and a box of cigars to her bartender contact, and a pound of real coffee to her
Lone Star contact. She received a glass jaguar statue (her totem is a jaguar)
from a teammate...also received a pair of super-nice boots with steel linings,
and a Sav Guardian was her gift to herself...Art or figures relating to one's
totem seems to be a great gift for those shaman types...Hey, maybe a giant wolf
plushie for that Wolf adept in your group...

One of the people I played with had a character who was fond of gift
giving. She bought my speed-samurai a tin of valerian root tea (its a
herbal relaxant) and some nice bath oils. I was touched, truly. Never used
them, but still...
