Let me start off by saying that I am new to this list (Hell, I signed up
last night...) and I have some thoughts and ideas for a Campaign that a high
volume list could help me with. I have been working on some of these ideas
with a smaller list and they have given me great feedback that has allowed
my ideas to take a semblance of form, but the posts to that list are few and
far between, and I am trying to whip this campaign into shape as soon as I
can.

I have owned Shadowrun for several years now, but it has always taken the
back seat to other games. Recently that changed when I got a new idea that
would be the most challenging for the world of Shadowrun. And I crave a good
creative challenge.

I have only five Shadowrun books, and at present cash flow is dictating that
it will be some time before I can afford to get some more. They are:
Shadowrun 2nd Edition, Virtual Realities 2.0, Grimoire (with all sorts of
blank pages), Awakenings, and Corporate Securities. So I have been having to
make several assumptions on topics I don't know anything about. But my ideas
have proved to be quite adaptable as I have been filled in on the Shadowrun
world.

Well my idea is to bring the Living Dead (from the Romero movies Night of
the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and upcoming Twilight of
the Dead (that movies not due for a long time. Romero has to finish another
movie before he can even start on it.)) into the world of Shadowrun.

At first I figured easy job, until the other list brought up a number of
holes and things that I hadn't thought of. Which is why I need help, I can
think through and come up with just about anything. It's the things I don't
know about and the things I overlook that I need help with.

For those of you who don't know I will give a very brief outline of the
movies. In Night of the Living Dead a probe from Venus blows up in the
atmosphere and the bodies of the recently deceased rise and try to eat the
living. Dawn of the Dead takes place 3 weeks later and it shows how humanity
is dealing with the Living Dead epidemic. Day of the Dead deals with
possibly the last group of living humans left on Earth.

I am interested in using this as the backdrop for my campaign. The crisis
itself and the conflicts between meta - humanity is the real story. The fall
of Earthly civilization is the true story, and how the characters deal with
it is my goal.

BASIC CONCEPTS

1.) The Probe: The cause of the whole mess. Launched in the early 2030's it
mysteriously vanishes just outside Saturn's orbit in 2058, and is found two
weeks later in Earth's orbit. A Corp (I have next to no information on any
of the Corporations so I have had to leave this part vague) launches a
recovery operation in hopes of discovering any valuable information on the
planets (and moons) of the Outer Planets (the probe was a deep space probe
designed to thoroughly scan the planets and moons of the solar system). The
probe brought something back with it, and the world will never be the same.

2.) Pandora's Box: The characters in my Campaign are hired by someone
(another thing I have left vague at this time because I need some help with
it) to steal the information and if possible several key pieces of the probe
that they (the Corp or Government) could use to get more info (i.e. gas
collection vents, computer core, etc.). When the characters retrieve these
items they let out a force that brings the dead back as the Living Dead.

3.) Astral Infection: This is a concept that has become something of a pet
project of mine (there are just so many possibilities). This idea has
evolved so much from when I first thought it up, and I expect future input
will iron it out even more. When the probe disappeared something happened to
it (this is purposely left vague because it lends to the horror of it all),
it was changed beyond anything comprehendible. An Astral Field had become
attached to it in violation of everything known about Astral Space. Let me
keep the initial description of the Infected Astral as short as possible.
This Astral Field attaches itself to inanimate objects, actually radiates
from objects it is attached to, corrupts normal (or healthy) Astral, for the
most part it allows for normal use of Astral Space (magic is usable, etc.)
but there is taint or corruption that accompanies this Astral. I know this
description is sketchy and there will be a ton of questions but I have done
an entire post once on this topic and am trying to keep this as brief as
possible.

4.) The Living Dead: The Infected Astral interacts with the brain matter of
the recently deceased (I will explain how and why this happens and why it
doesn't happen to the living later) reanimating the body. This Living Dead
body craves the flesh of the Living and will gorge itself (even if it has no
stomach). Any person dying in an Infected area will rise again as the Living
Dead, and anyone bitten (or something similar) will die a painful death and
rise as one of the Living Dead shortly.

5.) Breakdown: As time goes on and the Living Dead begin to outnumber the
living society begins to brake under the stress and the crisis. This is a
very interesting concept that I believe can fun to play with.

6.) Exodus: With the technology available it only makes sense that some of
humanity will take to the stars to escape the menace of the Living Dead.
From Space Stations, to roving caravans, to even trial colonization of other
worlds. Frankly I am surprised that FASA hasn't tackled that topic already.
Utilizing the Infected Astral (yep this Astral leeches itself to inanimate
objects and needs no living matter) magic is possible (if you don't mind
slowly poisoning yourself, and the always present danger of the Living Dead
popping up). But several questions do exist about space in general...

I think that covers the basics there. I have quite a bit more on several
topics but I didn't want to have a HUGE email. I appreciate any input I
could be given.

Well, we did something very similiar in a Ninjas and superspies campaign,
and its not fun, its actually realy boring. and it wasn't the GM who did it,
hes realy good and quiet a Living dead freak. Well, it didn't worked out at
all.

I will admit just having the characters dealing with the Living Dead would
be very boring it becomes who can shoot the most zombies in the head. Even
in the movies that was not the most important part, it was what was
happening to the world in general and how quickly humanity can turn on
itself. That's why I want to delegate the Living Dead to the background. And
in the Shadowrun world there are just so many different things that could
happen (especially if you are using the cause I am using). Magic and Astral
Space were not even imagined in the original Romero films, and with Astral
Space Infected... that leads to a whole lot of surprises and challenges. Not
to mention Space itself is a topic that can spin off into it's own Campaign.
I am the kind of person who cannot stand just doing nothing but rolling dice
all night something that sparks my imagination has to be going and believe
me I can make some sparks...

But the world of Shadowrun is sooo different from the current world.
There would be a lot of opportunities for interesting stuff in SR...for
instance,
SR is a much more vicious place than today's world...who's to say the Dead
would take over? It might be a case of a stalemate...certain areas are
lost to
the Dead, with others being fortified by corps and/or govts. Frankly, I don't
think the sixth world would go down so easily.
And, the Dead wouldn't be the only enemies to deal with, nosiree. The
runners would have to interact with others who are capitalizing on the loss
of law and order caused by the "invasion." Plus, maybe this is just the break
the Horrors have been waiting for (mwahahaha).
All in all, there's plenty of ways to keep the despair-filled, apocalyptic
feeling, and still make it fun. Of course, you eliminate the use of future
SR supplements that are in the vein of Shutdown: Renraku Arcology (unless
the arcology was a safe place from the Dead, then it mysteriously shut
down...
You might also try running that campaign, and a normal SR campaign at
the same time (alternating, of course). That might keep the players from
getting bored with the Dead thing.

Good luck,
Scott

The sixth world is VERY different from reality, and I do not believe that it
would go down as easily. Just the weaponry would make it easier...

This is where the real meat and challenge of the campaign would come from.
The Living Dead couldn't have won in the Romero movies had the people banded
together and fought together as opposed to fighting themselves. It was the
infighting that allowed the Zombies to overtake humanity.

I have only the second edition rulebook and four sourcebooks, so I do not
believe that will be a problem. There are so many different things for me to
work with as it is. I still have to deal with the newly Infected Astral
Space (and the consequences to all the Awakened Races and magic users... oh
the poor spirits) and then there is Outer Space which is a very big topic on
it's own...

I had so many ideas pinging around from your post I kinda glossed
over some portions of what I sent..In my approach..the brain also
would be key..the astral critters would localize in the brain and
brainstem so channel energy into the host..Due to the more or less
random nature of the astral critters distribution it can cause some
of the remembered reactions from the movies..ANd massive trauma to
the brain drestroys the astra critters ability to function as a
colony and they die rather rapidly..Possibly trying to migrate to a
