We've created a Shadowrun account over on MySpace -- you can reach it
at http://www.myspace.com/shadowrunrpg

We'll be posting the usual news and updates that are posted to
ShadowrunRPG.com to the MySpace site, so if you are a social
networking junkie you can get your fix over there. Also, if you're
one of the first 100 people to add ShadowrunRPG to your friend list
on MySpace, you'll be entered into our highly seat-of-the-pants
Emergence contest, where 1 lucky MySpace friend will win a copy of
the upcoming book!

cheers,
Adam

Oh, my, god.

What for? You already have one true website (well, several in fact), and
RSS feed, I wander what MyThing has that you already haven't yet?

Because... they wanted to?

Because... not everybody does RSS?

Because... some people might check MySpace on a daily (or more) basis to
keep up with their friends, and not neccessarily go to SR sites all that
often, either due to laziness or just not thinking of it, but might however
be interested in knowing what's up?

Because... people who might otherwise never find out about (or be interested
in) Shadowrun might see it on a friend's friendlist and check it out, and
any method of getting the word out is A Good Thing™?

Because... nobody's forcing you to go to their MySpace site (to go to
TheirSpace? Whatever...) if you don't want to?

*shrugs* Pick a reason.

Because it will allow them to utilize the potential of social
networking technologies, in a forward-thinking way that will leverage
the assets of Web 2.0 to enable B2B cross-cutting concerns in an out-
of-the-box, win-win solution-space?

Ouch. Are you in on the beta-test of the real life version of Black
Hammer? I swear reading that fried a couple of brain cells.

Man, how does anyone survive without RSS these days? Seriously, if
anyone on the list spends more than, oh, a half hour reading websites
a day and _doesn't_ know what RSS is, grab your favourite geek and
say "Please teach me how to use RSS to make my life better. Or at
least to get my Shadowrun news near-instantly."

Because there can be more to life than the internet?
I probably average 1 hour a day on the net, don't know what RSS is,
and don't have time or inclination to find out.

If it will let me read the CBT forums off-line, I'm interested though...

Jeez, I know full well what RSS is. I tried it out, said 'meh', and got and went back to
doing things my way. I can see how it might be useful for some people, but personally it
doesn't interest me much. Somehow I've survived ;)

(Which, getting back on topic, is not to say I use myspace either. Ick.)

It's probably there just because it's not that hard to do once you
have an RSS feed going. I follow their feed through livejournal.

Well, when one has an RSS feed from the shadowrunrpg.com site, one
never need look at the site until the RSS reader says there is a new
entry. It greatly reduces the time used going to the sites in which
you have interest, assuming you subscribe to their RSS feeds. All
the important sites for me (all 4 of them) give me RSS feeds so life
is easier. I can imagine people who surf to 100+ sites would find
RSS indispensable.

It actually can aid you in reading some sites offline, depending on
the sort of feeds they offer.

Here's a really, really basic primer: http://ecoworks.ca/newlayouts/
tm/articles/rrs_basic_101.asp

Basically: you use a piece of software, which can be stand-alone, web-
based, or built into your existing browser/email client to subscribe
to the "feeds" that sites provide, and that material will
automatically be refreshed on a regular basis, such as first thing in
the morning. This helps you to not miss content, reduces browsing
time because you won't be visiting sites that haven't been updated,
often gives you a brief outline of the article/news story before you
decide to read the entire thing, etc.

Since you're using Thunderbird, here's a quick guide for setting RSS
up within it: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_RSS_Basics

cheers,
Adam

Surfing the web is about the only exercise I get (other than running up and
down the stairs to the kitchen 3 times in as many minutes 'cause I keep
forgetting part of my dinner...) so I try not to make things TOO easy on
myself *g*

(Plus, I don't like change. So... anybody running an SR2 campaign? 8-} )
