This month's Inquest has short piece on the Shadowrun Trading Card Game.
It will be due out in August. I think we've all seen the description of
the game, but for those who haven't, the players build shadowruning teams
as if they were a fixer and send the teams out on runs.

In the article, FASA president Jill Lucas says that the success of the
Battletech CCG is at least partially based on the loyalty of the
Battletech customer base and that FASA would like to do something similar
with the Shadowrun TCG, since it has such a strong customer base. She
also says that "This game is our highest priority."

It lists artists which are already commissioned - Tim Bradstreet, Paul
Bonner, Mark Tedin, Janet Aulisio, and "other big guns of the fantasy art
world." I wonder if Tim is coming back to do new art or if they're just
using his old stuff. It would be great to see him come back and do SR
stuff, I think he pretty much defined the look of the world in the early
days.

Finally, it ends with Tara Gallagher, FASA sales manager, talking about
the Shadowrun following (which is us), and comparing it again to the
Battletech following, expecting a "big initial response". She finishes
with "Fans won't be dissapointed, this is a cool game."

Nothing has changed in the basic concept since we first heard of this
game, then.

I don't doubt that one... I bought a BT CCG starter deck just to see how
it compares to real BattleTech I'm used to, and it disappointed me.
Hopefully the SR CCG will be better, but I'm not holding my breath.

And if they want to keep a big response, they'll have to make it worth our
while to invest in a CCG next to the RPG. With BT, I doubt I'll buy more
cards than that one starter because the boardgame (IMnsHO) is much better
than the cardgame... If the same happens with SR, then after almost every
SR player buys a starter deck and a couple of boosters, sales will drop
drastically.

Not that I'm saying it'll be a bad game -- that remains to be seen. For
the moment, though, I'll remain a bit sceptical until I've actually seen
the game.

Did you expect her to say anything else? :)

Geez, we can see that in the delays that the publications are undergoing.
Whatever makes money, I guess <shrug>

I'm not a fan of CCG's at all.

Yay, just like Shadowrun is a 'cool' game. That'[s one of the things I
look for in my RPG products; Coolness.

Pick the sarcasm, anyone?

There is a review from a hands-on session of the Shadowrun Trading Card
Game at the following web site:

http://www.gamerwld.com/revel.htm

Did everybody see the ad on the back of Shadowland? Some of the artwork
was recognizable from other products, but a lot of it looked brand new.
