I really think that a TV series or half decent movie really would
not be that hard to do. Other than the acting the special
effects could be done pretty easily. I remember a tv series
a few years ago when one of the characters had cyberware.
I cannot remember the name of this series. This would be
easy for the costume department. As for the special
effects they are really easy to do. Well they take time but you
can use the same animations in hundreds of really creative
ways. All you have to do is set up the original scenes and
wait for them to render. Do you think that disney doesn't
use the same stills in their cartoons? The only thing that
will hold back such a movie would be lack of an audience
and the ratings. Look at mortal kombat the effects could be
put to better use but heck it can be done.

my 2 cents.

All this talk of a Shadowrun movie has got me thinking. Let's say we are
going to make the definitive Shadowrun movie. First, of all, let us all
vote on which novels/adventures would make the best source material,
and then let's talk about casting choices.
I say the Secrets of Power trilogy would be the best source to date for a
movie. The three books combined give a lot of material to work with.
As for casting, here are my choices:

Dodger - Christian Slater (got that elven 'tude)
Sally Tsung - ?
Sam Verner - ?
Any ideas people?
This could be fun :)

Well, I've got my own actors that I'd put in to make a Shadowrun movie.
To start up, lets put in a few stars. Christian Slater could well play an
elf's part. For that cool all around runner's look, I'd take Val Kilmer,
probably as a decker in order to break stereotypes.
I like te idea!

Burning Bright would be my first choice, second would probably be Into the
Shadows (done sorta like Pulp Fiction, lot of connecting short stories).

Blech! Ugh! Not The Secrets of Power... anything but that!

Besides, the biggest problem that movies have is paring down books to a
1:30-3:00 screenplay and three books (bad ones too) would never make it as a
movie. Another vote for Into the Shadows there (maybe that should be my
first choice, but DAMN do love Burning Bright).

Actors? Whoever fits the roles, I don't care if its a no-name as long as
the actor fits the character. Even the best actors come off bad when they
get put into a role that just doesn't fit.

More like "I wished not..."land :) AFAIK there's no plans for making an SR
movie -- this whole thread is just a "what if" thing.

Anyone other than me think that Val Kilmer would have been far better
than Keanu-the-deadhead in Johnny Mnemonic?

I second that. I definetly think that anyone (especially Val Kilmer)
could replace that lifeless actor! He just takes up space and air!
I HAVE LAWN FURNITURE THAT ACTS BETTER THAN HE DOES!
