Actually, what might really be a blast is get a buncha shadowrun
GMs/players, people who know and love the world/mythos, together and make
a public-access TV show out of it. Austin has a really nice public access
cable Tv system. The special effects might not be th ebest, but oh well,
it sure as shit would be fun to try! Actually, the crappy "hand-cam"
appearance might work FOR the realism: remember the bits in _Sprawl Sites_
about a TV show approaching runners to vidtape their run? Might be
amusing... Anyhow, back to lurking... (Would we be violating any laws by
doing this? Public access doesn't make anyone any money, so FASA wouldn't
be getting burned out of any money.) Well, for special effects, I think I
could get a pirated copy of some video editing program and run it through
my workstation onto tape. I've never tried anything remotely of that
magnitude, but I'd be willing to try if it looked like the idea might
gestate into reality. Wow, I'm blathering now, the idea has really sunk
into my head, so I'd best stop before this letter spirals any further out
of control. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Yeah. Come up to Chicago sometime and do a bug hunt.

I used to think I was indecisive. Now, I'm not so sure.

Interesting. But who would you get to play the runners? I mean,
in my admittedly limited experience most players bear little if any
resemblance to their PC's. <g>

Hey! I've played a comp nerd before!! :) But it was too much like real
life..current detective is a street detective. I don't think I'd make the
cut acting that character, she's female..

I think it would be a great idea, actually. One thing I would like to see
is an actual fact based RPG help type TV show. I think its really fucking
(excuse my language, I refuse to bleep it.) sad that most people's TV
visions of RPG's are a) The nerds getting their asses kicked by the tough
guys or
b) The people that play games and go nuts, EG Mazes and Monsters and
Cruel Doubt.
I suppose I would get in front of the camera to film something SR related.
I'll be the guy that you never see his face..yeah..that will work. ;)
Its a good idea..but probably not doable :(

BTW, if anyone has a video copy of Cruel Doubt, lemme know..its a 1991?
made for TV movie, I think NBC. There was also a book by the same name.
If you have the movie, I would be interested in getting a copy, its been
awhile since I've seen it, and I can add it to my pile of 'Generic shit
that slanders RPG's obviously produced by someone who has never held a D6
outside of Monopoly' stuff.

I saw M&M a few years ago, and was sorely disappointed by it... Cruel
Doubt, is that the mini-series where some guy kills his stepfather and
attempts to kill his mother, and then it gets blamed on him playing D&D?
That series resulted in me explaining quite a lot about what roleplaying
is *really* about to my parents...

Oh, and let's not forget the AD&D cartoon, or the BattleTech one (sorry
to all FASA employees, but about the only cool thing about the show are
the CGI scenes, and even they could have been better...).

AKA "Someone who'd fail the D4-initiation" :)
