How about posting some shadowrun-ish movie reviews. (Actually reviews of
shadowrun-ish movies:) I'll even start.

(I've been informed that some of these movie titles maybe different in
different countries. So include a brief synopsis. [w/o ruining the movie]
* -- Probably a waste of time
** -- If your really bored...
*** -- Worth watching mediochre film
**** -- Pretty good
***** -- An Obvious Classic

Nemesis -- **** Hey, this film is chalked full of violence. Its about
a cop who has many cybernetic replacements who has to figure out
a psuedo predictable plot by cyborgs. But it does include great
action scenes, execellent gun-fights, and a few interesting
characters. There is even a guy who has a gyro-harness and LMG!

Split Second -- *** Starring Rutger Hauer and Kim Catrall. Rutger's character
is very interesting but some of the others are pretty plain.
The action scenes are pretty good, but not so many. It includes
a sort of Call of Cthulu type plot that may make a good shadowrun.

Blade Runner -- ***** Starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer. Most of you
have already seen it, and if you haven't, you should. I suggest
getting the directors cut. This could be a great shadowrun if
your players haven't seen it. (Fat chance)

The Hidden -- **** Okay, this is set in modern day, but it could easily
be changed to a shadowrun adventure. Starring that uhhh....
I forget his name but he appears in Dune and Twin Peaks.
Its about this creature that... well, see the movie.

The Hidden II -- * I didn't even finish the whole movie. It's good to sleep
too.

Aliens -- ***** Okay, this is to _far_ in the future. But if you plan on
running a bugs run, this has good atmosphere. Starrs Sigorney
Weaver. It's a good old Marines vs. Bugs. (Anyone played Space Hulk?

Alien -- ** Not as cool as Aliens, but not that bad.

Aliens 3 -- *** This could be modified to be a Shadowrun <evil GM grin>

So go ahead and post some other movies. Or feel free to comment on my reviews.
(Not that you weren't anyways :)

For an interesting way of using magic in a modern setting, check out
"Cast a Deadly Spell"; it's like Shadowrun in the '50's. Nice feel,
I thought. Not very violent, but neat to see magic treated as accepted
and just a part of life, possibly similar to how it might be in SR.
Been awhile since I've seen it, but I'll give it a tentative ****.

That was a Lovecraftian makeover by HBO, right? I liked the movie a lot...
4 to 5 *'s. There was a second movie that came out along the same lines,
also by HBO (I can't remember the name... never saw it, but heard it was
pretty good). Any idea what movie it was? And I agree wholeheartedly about
how magic is handled in it. It is the closest parallel I've found yet. A
must see.

A couple more:
"I Come in Peace"
*** I saw this under its production title, "Dark Angel." It's not too bad, if
a little cheesy. It's more than a little violent, and you gun-freaks will
notice the Calico 950 SMGs masquerading as alien guns. The plot involves, in
a nutshell, drug dealers from outer space, and the earthling cop who gets to
go after them.

"To Cast a Deadly Spell"
***** This one's been mentioned before on this list, as excellent Shadowrun
source material. It's set in the past--1920s--rather than the future, but it's
an alternate 1920s where magick is all over the place, just like in SR. It's
eerie to watch, with the familiar and the alien all jumbled together. An
awesome movie.

tomahawk) EVER
Hard Target **** \
Hard Boiled ***** -Two Beretta 92s beat *ANY* other weapon!
The Killer **** /
Split Second ****
The Crow ***** - The best Shadowrun soundtrack so far. "Dead? It's only
a +4..."
Dust Devil **** (if you like getting mystical)
Dark Angel *** (if you want alien beings in your game)
Aliens ***** (Insect spirits with attitude)
Black Rain ***** (good guide to Yakuza)
Rising Sun **** (corp etiquette 101)
Lethal Weapon I-III **** (shadowrunner joins the police)

More probably to follow if this thread lasts...

Bummer, you liked Aliens 3 better than Alien! What order did you see them
in? I saw them from the start, and though I loved Alien and Aliens, I
couldn't take no3. by itself it was a good movie, I just couldn't take it
alongside the others.
I saw 3 once, then went to see all three in a fest, and walked out after
Aliens finished.

NE-Way, I agree with all the other movies, and don't bother staying up
late to see the ened of Hidden II, it wasn't really worth it.

BTW the bit in Nemesis where the guy cuts the floor out from under him
with HK MP5's, hilarious or what?

I'd give Terminator ***** and Terminator II ***

Also, Naked Lunch is definitely ***** in my book -- very strange atmosphere,
set in the 1950s this bug exterminator gets involved in a twisted conspiracy
involving strange creatures masquerading as humans, typewriters that are
actually talking insect-like secret agents, and all kinds of other strange
things.
And have your cat in the room in that one scene in the alley where you hear
a cat :)

Bubble Gum Crisis - ***** - Very ShadowRun like - Sam/riggers and Decking

Its not really movies - but they are great. The heroines are Shadowrunners who
wear Mili-spec powered armor and do jobs for money - though do have morals.
They have a grudge against and a very powerful Mega-Corp (Genome) and often
based their runs against them.

The police aren't all that effective against the main big problem - Boomers - AI
andriods that tend to kick but. Thats were the Girls often step in to help.

Animation - stunning, Plot - outstanding, Music - Great!

Bubble Gum Crash - ***

It is ok - it just is a let down after Crisis.

To Cast a Deadly Spell - Is a Cthuloid Film set in the 1930's but a version
of the era that accepts magic as a fact of life (kinda like an older version of SR :)
Its about a detective (called Lovecraft :) that is the only man in the city that
refuses to believe in magic :) Anyway I liked the film because it was very well
made and it has a lighter tone than your average Cthuloid adventure/story, it
actually has some very funny bits :)
