Ok, I just bought the book and am reading it and already
I've got HUGE questions that just MUST be answered

#1. What happened that Lofwyr is no longer on the
Council of Princes and Hestaby is?

#2 When did the PCC take over LA and how?

#3 Am I understanding this correctly? This General Saito
fella decided to tell the Japanese government to go piss up
a rope and decided to start taking all of CalFree as a
Japanese Imperial State? If this is the case then why hasn't
japan itself gone after him and forced him to make right the
dishonor he's brought upon himself, his family, and his
government, not to mention his lords..

.........More WILL follow as I read more of the book.............

This wasn't covered in the book. There are a couple things though. One is that the new
Germany SB, Deutschland in den Schatten II, deals partly with why Lofwyr left. But since
it's not being translated from German into English, we'll have to track down a German and
make them tell us the relevant details.

The other thing is that the novel Mike Mulvihill was writing deals with the Tir and the
Council of Princes. Of course, with the shake-up of FASA closing and the old publishers
deciding not to print any more SR books, it's kinda up in the air whether it'll be
released yet.

This was cover in the previous SB Year of the Comet and is tied in with your third
question. When the comet showed up, there were /massive/ earthquakes around the Pacific's
Ring of Fire in October 2061 On the 22nd December 2061 LA was hit by an 8.1 Richter
earthquake. The place was in chaos and the city authority could hold it together.

First they tried asking for aid from the CalFree government but that was a shambles and
with Saito in charge of large areas, he didn't care. So they went to the UCAS, Ute and
Pueblo governments for aid. All of them would of liked to take control of LA but Pueblo
was quicker so they moved in, took control and quietly annexed the place.

Like I said before, there were massive earthquakes all the way round the Pacific. Japan
though, was hit /really/ hard. Large tracts of the country were levelled with massive
loses. On top of that the Emperor and majority of the Imperial family died as well. This
meant a new 14-year-old Emperor, as he was one of the last direct descendents.

With all the devastation, the Emperor called home all the Imperial soldiers and marines
from around the world to held with the recovery efforts.

This is what caused Saito to break away. He didn't feel like going back to Japan and
leaving the Japanacorps in San Francisco in the lurch so he broke away. With Japan
severely wounded, they can't spare the resources to go after Saito. Plus he's being
quietly backed by some of the more conservative Japanacorps elements that don't like some
of the new Emperor's more enlightened new policies.

Well, hope that helps some. That's it in rough but you really do need to read the book to
get a better/full understanding, as I'm sure I've glossed over stuff to keep it brief.
