I allow nearly any sort of ideal, concept or the like to be used as a
totem. In my game I would be quite happy to allow, say a shaman of
Cat, and shaman of Persian Cat (assuming that the Shaman of the
Persian Cat sees it as being different and unique from other cats). I
would even allow a Dunkelzahn shaman (that was posted to the list (in
jest?) a while back) if someone wanted to play it. I see that whether
or not some, none or all totems are real beings as being irrelevant to
the way the game plays, because magic works the way the people expect
it to, so someone who idealises Dunky and everything he stood for
could easily become a shaman of Dunkelzahn (even if he didn't see
himself as such).
So short answer time then. Yep, I allow it :)
