You have some interesting ideas about the Shapeshift/Critter form spells.
Here's a few comments that you might find useful:
1) First of all go back and reread the spell descriptions in Grimoire II, they
both specifically say you can transform into a "non-Paranormal" or
"normal"
critter. No need to make DM ruling, FASA isn't that dumb (alright screems
the munchkin! Now I'll cast my Great Western Dragon form spell).
2) This is just a suggestion, but you might want to increase the damage codes
when increasing other base stats. I think it's kinda dumb if a shaman cast
a really big Critter form spell yet his body with say +5 to all attributes
does the same damage as one with no bonuses.
3) There should be no need to "know" an animal to use the Critter form spell
for it. It's all in the spell formula.
4) Now on the subject of a spellcaster having to "know" an animal, I think your
being a little too strict. Shamans should be able to take the form of their
totem without spending time studying it. If your a dog shaman you know
just about everything you need to know to take its form. Also shamans
should be able to do the same for any critters that live in his native
domain (namely the one he gets a conjuring bonus in). As for mages, I think
vivisection and observation are a little too much. Studing the creature is
find but learning enough to shape change doesn't mean you need to be a
naturalist or a veternarian, the magic does the real work.
>>I had on player, whose char. was a hermetic mage, try to convince me that
>>he majored in vertebrate biology in college. Kids, don't try this at home.
The question should be does the character is quesiton have the Biology skill.
As for the Stimsim recordings, that technojock should find himself a new
pastime because this will never work. Note I say that not because its a bad
idea, but because magician reaction to simsense is legandary. The'll see
everything they need to know, but will be too distracted by the fakeness of the
entire thing to take any of it seriously.
