I just looked at teh FASA WWW site and the preview of teh SR Companion,
and I have a quibble about the Shapeshifter PC rules.

The rules as given state that if teh shapeshifter takes a Deadly wound
then tehy die on a roll of 1 on D6 (1 or 2 if from explosions, fire etc).
They will also automatically die if damage exceeds their physical overflow
limit.

Is it me, or does this mean taht shapeshifters have actually MORE chance
of dying than a mundane (who woulnd't have ANY chance of dying by simply
taking a Deadly wound).

I guess this is a hangover from 1st Ed where there was no Physical
overflow, and Death was tested for when the person received medical
attention (Body test TN of number of minutes till medical aid was
recieved).

I would say a good house rule would be to change the rule to teh
shapeshifter not regenerating the damage from Deadly wound if the roll
comes up a 1 ( or 2 if from fire etc).

I can't belive I'm amking up a house rule for a book whihc isn't even
released yet :)

I can't either, but, assuming you are right about the inconsistency, I think
it is a good house rule. But, since the book hasn't been released yet, how
about a helpful email to FASA pointing out the mistake you believe they are
about to make, that way it can become a good official rule.

Or, also, FASAMike, are you paying attention?

I think it is too late to make the change now, doesn't teh COmpanion ship
soon? And even if it doesn't I'd imagine its past the stage where it could
be altered.

I agree with you here, but I think that may have been the spirit of the
rule anyway. Rolling a 1 just means that the wounds do not regenerate.
Any PC who takes 10 boxes of physical damage is technically dead. The
miracle of modern medicine may be able to heal them and bring them back,
but without that aid they will die. I mean I didn't write the book, but we
may be just talking about symantics here.

BTW, that's the very rules in the SR2 manual, but w/o the explanation...
I've considered what you're talking aboutand here's how I came out:
the only way to kill a shapeshifter/other regenerate is to do _heavy_ neural
damage (read: decapitation, massive head trauma, etc) to them. When you roll
that die, you're checking for that kind of damage. I didn't see it as fair
to give the shapeshifter the ability to survive that kind of damage, besides,
it was stated that neural damage didn't regenerate. If you feel it to be
very unfair to the shapeshifter, you could require that other types of PCs
use the same rule when taking Deadly wounds, roll for neural damage, if they
take neural damage, they're either dead or a vegetable, either way, not much
can be done for them...BTW, I was using a shapeshifter when I made these
decisions...the only qualm I have on the Shapeshifter as PCs stuff that was
posted on the FASA page was the severe disadvantage Shapeshifter PCs take on
their regeneration ability as opposed to how NPCs regen...

Also if you look in the different SR novels, the shape shifter keeeps on
healing. Doesn't just heal each wound once.

That's the way we use it in our campaign. I play there a Vampire-Mage.

I think that's one reason why there is a prerelease.
