What do you guys & gals think of shapeshifters and bioware. As per rules
on page 36-38 in SCbtS.

I would say it tends to hurt a great deal. I calculate the body index in
deadly wounds. The bioware has certain shape is not magical and even if
made from the DNA is not "Natural" and the magic does not act to change
it. Thus it will not change when the body changes it stays just the way
it was designed to be. I know the people who love shapeshifters will say
otherwise. IMO they have more than enough advantages as they exist
without giving them the advantages of bioware just my 2¥ worth on the
this topic.

I just say that when the shifter gets cyber- or bioware installed,
it's
"stuck" on the shape it had it installed in. He/she will never be able
to
change again, even if the item is removed.

I just say they can't get bioware. The bionetic components are designed
around the human genome... which shapeshifters aren't apart of. Sure, it
would be possible to develop some, but it would be too expensive for too
small a market.

Well, a few people have heard (and disagree with) my personal theory on
Regeneration and Cyberware/Bioware, but here ya go...

First off, (and this applies to vampires as well, just in case you were
wondering), the Shaper is fragged when it tries to transform. I would rule
that it would transfer, and the critter gets a painful lessen about what
happens when you have a large chunk of metal/meat riped through you...

You also have potential problems with regeneration... Depending on how you
view the mechanism behind regeneration, you once again get a lesson in
messy expellation of matter through a living being as the body regen's the
"missing" piece of natural body, forcing the unatural piece out...

Fun, eh? :]

And just to beat a dead horse and change tracks a moment here, ponder this...

Once side of the regen debate states that a regenerating creature can have
cyberware because the essence has been payed and that the magical nature of
regeneration reads the aura and regens around that (I'm still not sure who
and how that theory came about, but... we'll go with it for this question
:)).

My question is, based on the above argument, cana regenerator take Bioware
safely?

Before you jump in and say "of course", think on this... There's no
essence actually payed unless you're a mage, and that's not so much essenc
loss as a penalty for unatural intrusion. The only thing a normal
character pays is Body Index.

So would the above statement apply?

<shrug>

I was leaning toward no. I figured the main reason cyberware is a no-no
for shifters, was the whole bodily expulsion thing. I figured it would
be the same for bio.

Along these lines of thought, has anyone considered a "Shapeshifter
Retrovirii?" I mean, something designed around a Shaper's DNA, but then
implanted into a norm type. What I'm getting at is something that would be a
particularly nasty little NPC/Critter.

Idea Background

Someone is experimenting with some Shaper Bone Marrow, in order to test out
the durabilitity of the recovery ability. During a stupid twist, or a run
gone bad, samples get mixed up, and a patient is accidentally implanted with
the material.

Now I realize this would all be one in a million, but -just- for the sake of a
game, a "Werewolf" is created (as an example). A "Man" who can
become a
"Wolf". Certain varying degrees of study or psychosis are of course due to
the individual, and who knows what could be done from that point. Basically,
the Bone Marrow wins out, and manages to convert the "norm" into a
"Shaper".

Sounds Kind of Twisted to me, but would be an interesting variation on the
"Guess Who Broke Out Today?"

IMO, NO, because the "accompanying magic loss" that a magician suffers is due
to their magical nature. Shapers and Vampires IMO -both- are very magical
critter-types and as such, suffer the same sort of "Magic Loss" that a
magician does for Bioware.
