Hi to all out there in the dark

One lasts weekends my group discovered a interresing question:
What kind of mate can produce childs with an shapshifter?
Genetics wise this would be clear but with magic?
Short glance on the background:
A female shapeshifter is deeply in love with an Elf(dont blame her for it)
As shes going old by now she wants some childs.
The Elf doesnt want some childs of any kind
Good point to annoy the player with no end.

So will there be childs or not?
Could a shapeshift spell cast on the Elf be helpfull?
Or must a kind of fertilizer spell be cast?
some other ideas?

If these all makes no or little sense I appology in front as I`m very tired
now.

Good night to all

Now I'm not with my books at the moment, so I can't offer page
numbers. However, if I'm recalling correctly (between BBB and
Companion) a shapeshifter isn't so much a human that takes animal
form, as an animal that can take human form.

They're born as that animal, and in fact can have siblings that are
just mundane creatures. (i.e. a fox shapeshifter born to a mundane fox
mother in a litter of six, his five litter mates are just normal fox
kits.)

I guess though sexual relations with a human could obviously be
possible, I don't see reproduction with a human happening. In the S/R
novels about Stryper she meets and mates with a male of her kind and
gives birth to a cub. Though I know novels are not recognized as
cannon, this more than fits with what the BBB and Companion describe.

No thwapping please, as I don't mean to be crude. However, I'd liken
what you're describing to a 6th world form of bestiality. Something
similar happens nowadays, and no human woman has given birth to a
doberman's puppy.

Shapeshifters are mainly animals (as stated in the Compendium).

Because shapeshifters reproduce ;-) in animal form the Elf must
change form, so the shapeshift spell would be helpful) because
otherwise he would be ripped to pieces by the shapeshifter (remember
its mainly an animal).
IMHO they may have children, but I don't know wich form, theres maybe
a 50 percent chance of another shapeshifter.

Not through normal means, no.

I wouldn't think so...

Eh...maybe, if such a thing exists...

They could adopt, you know.

I do not have answers.. but definitely more questions..

It depends on wether shapeshifting, wether by spell or innate magical
ability, changes your genetic makeup. Logically it will have to;
genetics is part of your shape.

I would say the shapeshifters in the BBB is a rather special case,
with a sort of hybrid gene rather than genes that change, but
they are also based on legend; In legends it is not uncommon for
shapeshifters and humans to mate and have offspring... of varying
natures.

(Now, someone else commented on dobermans; the offspring might be
from 'indiscretions', but I do not think so. Legends tend to be
pretty clear on things like that.).

You are correct.
BTW: I have forget one little thing this is a special case.
For these one the other way is sadly true.

True but today there is no magic or have I missed the early awakening .-)

Raven (and this goes for some others too), would you mind setting your
system clock to the same date the rest of the world is using? :)

(It's annoying to close a mail folder and then find out there are still
unread messages in it, dated days or even months before the current date,
so I have to open it again and hunt them down...)
