Subject: Ship-> Hearth Spirits

I just remembered someone asking a while back if ships (I think an
Aircraft Carrier was specified) could be considered as suitable for
Hearth Spirits. Well, I finally have some concrete proof that they
are. I JUST picked up the Grimoire (yay!) and in the druid section,
under the Sea (I think..) "totem", it says:
"+2 dice for conjuring sea water spirits and ship spirits(hearth
spirits)"
Or at least something to that effect.
So, I just wanted to add my 2 =Y=! Apparently, any ship (with the
exception of dingies and such, I suppose) has conjurable hearth
spirits.

IMO that's right. Every place someone calls home (and feels it too)
has a conjurable hearth spirit (thats somewhere written in the rule
book are the grimmy one) and a ship falls in that category. Mmmm...
maybe even a car, if someone is living in it. What do you think?

well, I used to know a guy who played in a game in which his character owned
a big lime (toyota elite I think) in which the team of runners spent most of
their lives (you know, the way most runners have a bar they spend an awful
lot of time in; the car had an extensive mini bar and the characters used
the limo for meetings with contacts ect, and spent a lot of time in the car
themselves), I dunno if he actually lived in it or not (probably did knowing
him), but a yaer or two into the game I remember the GM allowed the teams
shaman to summon a hearth spirit from the car.

In my game, I allow Transport Spirits (for lack of a better name) that
inhabit all sorts of vehicles. The often appear as tiny gremlins in the
works or something else appropriate to the vehicle in question. Most
have the exact same powers of a city spirit, but a few have special
abilites appropriate to vehicle type as well. Oh, yeah, they have the
Movement ability too, but I run that particular power differently so that
it stays rational (you know, turbocharged Westwind 2000 + force 6
gremlin spirit = car travelling at Mach speeds. I don't think so...)

Wild idea! But, according to what I read, if it's a place where people
live, it'll have a Hearth Spirit. So, if a Character lives in their car,
van, mobile home, whatever, they'll have a (well traveled) Hearth Spirit
there too.

I would have absolutely no idea, as i said, I didnt play in the game. The
game was running several years ago, come ta think of it, i mightn't have
even been playing SR when it was going down. If you're intently interested,
I'll get a description and post it for ya.

working along this line, with the idea that small processed
objects have this force weakened by being worked, anything has a
spirit that a shaman can call up...

We worked out a system of force modifiers, basically add the
base target number for affecting the item (4 to 10) to the force
of the spirit to get the target number to summon...
Aztechnologys mainframe spirit (at force5,spirit of man) really
shook up the decker, as it ran the system faster than he could
understand... and with damaged software...

In my game summoning of spirits is very common and I'm tired of the old
shifting clouds of mist or street-debris or little old men with beards and
pointy shoes, smoking.

Everybody: What does your spirits look like? Please post a short
description, it would help me a lot (like the Underworld 93 Spirit in
Mercurial)

sorry, he was the samurai, and he was unconcious at the time and had left to
get some food. the other members of the game i dont know, and the GM is back
in the USA (I think). As for spirits in my games, no one has ever summoned a
spirit, come to think of it, no one has ever played a shaman! Guess they
have yet to learn the advantages, ah well, their loss :-)
come to think of it, how many shamans does FASA include in its adventures? I
can only think of insect shamans, and Pride from queen eurphoria. They
always have mages. I also use very few shamans myself (guess i got into the
routine of mages like FASA did eh?), so I have no descriptions to post you.

Back a couple of posts I said something about the vehicle spirits that
I use. They generally appear as mischievous little gremlins who inhabit
the works, scurrying to and fro. Also, no where does it say that a
"spirit" has to be a single entity. A force 3 vehicle "spirit" may be
a
band of gremlins. A force 6 "spirit" may be a veritable horde. Same is
true of nature spirits. The attack power of a forest spirit may manifest
as a horde of stinging bees. Ouch. The attack of a high force street
spirit may be the sudden appearance of a rushing Mack truck. Or maybe
that's just an accident being used. Anyway...double ouch.
Actually, in a campaign in which I play, we encountered a Hearth spirit
who was the spittin' image of Kris Kristofferson. Weird.
