Well I finally got around to wading through all the email that I haven't
read in several months. Hundreds of postings going back to pre-gencon.
Now I have a question. Is FASA ever going to release something new for
Shadowrun? Have VOR and Crimson Skies taken over? Also is the Shadowrun
CD that was mentioned in several posts ever going to be sold to those of us
who can't make it to Gen Con or is this another thing like the Shadowrun
III Hardback?

FASA released the Shadowrun Quick Start rules at Gencon, two major
sourcebooks are in the final stages of writing (Man&Machine and Cannon
Companion) and the path for the next two years is already defined pretty
well. So Shadowrun is still here with us.

Vor and CS are awesome games, but they are targeted to a different public
than Shadowrun or Mechwarrior. No worries about overlapping market :)

The Shadowrun CD is made by a belgian company, I don't remember the url for
ordering it, tho...

Plenty of stuff is set up for release over the next two years or so.

Only in as far as new games alway take the forefront, IMHO.

The CD is made by Belgian company Orion Design Studio, which is apparently
an off-shoot of the Antwerp game store The Lonely Mountain. The URL to
their web site is http://www.thelonelymountain.com, but there's nothing
much there when I looked a few days ago. I'm fairly sure they'll have
their RL address and phone/fax numbers on there, though, so you can always
contact them through that.

He does have a valid point. The second half of the year goes from July to
Christmas. So far in the last quarter (July-September) FASA has released
for Shadowrun...Quick Start rules. And while I think they were definitely
needed, and have actually helped me to gain a completely new player, it is
just a summary of the game. Not much new stuff.

The last quarter of the year will see the release of Man and Machine in
October, which should rock. Its almost definite that Corporate Punishment
will be released. Then Year of the Comet and the Cannon Companion are
scheduled to be released "in the fourth quarter." I expect at least one of
them to be pushed back to 2000.

So far 6 months in 1999 they will have released 1 thin supplement, 1 think
supplement, and 1 set of adventures definitely. They might have one
campaign setting and another supplement, but at least one is going to be
late. I book every 2 months doesn't seem like a lot at all.

From the plans that we've heard, the next two years should see a big
increase, and I'm looking forward to it.

But it does take people away from producing SR. Mike said so himself. And
there are questions about that since I do believe SR is now their best
selling game. Of course, I'm biased since I don't play those other games... :)

Thank you for summing up my point perfectly. Over the last year we haven't
seen
much "new" stuff at all. Don't get me wrong I really do like 3rd edition
and am
very happy with it. However, it would have been nice if during the first
half of
the year FASA would have released Man and Machine, Cannon Compendium, and
MITS.
However we live with what we get. I just wish we would have gotten more.

Wasn't Man and Machine orginally supposed to have been released by now?

I'm also looking forward to next years new releases. Year of the Comet
sounds great.
But will it be release before the middle of next year?

I'm not totally biased just for SR. I've enjoyed a few games of
BattleTech, and several
of FASA other games. But isn't a little "odd" that shortly after FASA
acquired Ral-Partha
they seemed to feel the need to release a miniatures oriented game (VOR)?
Although, I will
admit the game does look good. I will probably buy it, read the rules,
paint some figures, and
then like about every other non-roleplaying game I own, put it on a shelf
and never get to play
it.

Please don't take this wrong. I'm not trying to slam FASA. I whole
heartedly support the
company. However, it would be nice to see some more support for Shadowrun.
Up untill recently
there was something for Shadowrun released approxiamatly <sp> every month.
And in some months
2 things.

In the decade that Shadowrun has been around, there have only been
aproximately 85 sourcebooks and/or adventure modules released. If, as
you state, there were releases every month until recently, the total
would be much closer to 120 than it actually is, would it not?

While there may have been periods where the releases have come more
frequently, the fact that there have only been around 85
sourcebooks/modules means that there have been at least some periods
of "drought" as well. This is _not_ the first time that FASA's gone a
stretch without putting out a new Shadowrun product "every month".

The sourcebooks just released, and the ones due to be released soon
have required more attention to detail than usual, and as such, are
taking a little longer to hit the shelves. Still, since Gencon '98,
we've seen the following products come out: Shadowrun Third Edition,
Renraku Arcology: Shutdown, SR3 GM Screen w/Critters booklet,
Shadowrun Companion for 3rd edition, New Seattle, Magic in the
Shadows, Corporate Download, First Run, Shadowrun Quickstart Rules.
That's nine products in thirteen months, with a tenth due out soon.
Compared to around 85 total for the past 10 years, the pace just
about matches.

GenCon was the original release date, but not too long after that was
announced, they seemed to have decided it couldn't be done that fast.

> But will it be release before the middle of next year?

Not sure. I don't think Mike said anything about actual release dates (or
even rough estimates) for next year's books at GenCon. You could make an
estimate by listening to the seminar files and counting the number of
books supposed to come out next year, and spacing them evenly over the
year.

Vor, to me, looks like it's intended, at least in part, to cash in on the
Warhammer market. If you look at the miniatures, they are a bit
reminiscent of WH40K, though with smaller weapons (thankfully...) and the
rules system is also similar to WH's.
