Has there been a better clarification of the Smart Link II system from
Fields of Fire? I remember everyone saying that it was confusing and vague when
it came out.

Yes. In the Fields of Fire errata sheet, much was clarified.
Like the called shot modifier should read "+2" instead of "+4", making
called shots amazingly easy with SMLK II.

SMARTLINK LEVEL II

Available for the first time, the new Smartlink Level II represents a
significant improvement over existing smartgun technology. Better command
processing, faster signal referencing, cleaner cross-vendor integration, and
formal adherance to the new ADVAT.328 protocol standards to make your weapon
linkage faster and better than ever! Smartlink Level II components are fully
compatible with Level I Smartlink systems!

MOUNT CONCEAL WEIGHT AVAILABILITY COST STREET INDEX
External Top/Under -2 .75 6/48 hrs 800Y 2
Internal - - .25 Weapon +200% Weapon
Smartgoggles - 0 .1 4/36 hrs 3500Y 2

ESSENSE COST AVAILABILITY COST STREET INDEX
Smartlink .5 6/48 hrs 3200Y 2

For rules regarding Smartlink Level II technology, see p. 84-85. To gain
Level II advatanges, both the smartlink and the smartgun must be Level II.

From FoF page 84-85:

SMARTLINK LEVEL II

The Smartlink Level II hardware and software represents an evolutionary
increase in smartgun technology. Most of the changes have no effect in game
terms; the Smartgun simply feels betetr and works more efficiently.
Smartlink Level II offers the following game system benefits.

o Smartlink Level II software can integrate with a rangefinder to provide an
additional -1 target number modifier at long range and a -2 target number
modifier at extreme range.

o Called Shots (p. 92 SRII) are easier to make with Smartlink Level II.
Apply a +4 Called Shot modifier when using Smartlink Level II.

o Smartlink Level II can calculate indirect-fire arcs, applying a -1
modifier for linked weapons such as under-barrel grenade launchers, grenade
guns, and the like. This benefit also applies to rocket launchers and
similar systems, but not to missile launchers and other systems with an
inherent Intelligence Rating.

From the FoF Errata:

PAGE 84-85 - SMARTLINK II

Replace the last paragraph with the following:

"Called shots are easier to make with SLII. Apply a +2 called shot
modifier when using SLII.

Smartlink One or Two? There's a difference. Smartlink Two
is in the Fields of Fire sourcebook. Smartlink One is in the
main book, and if you don't know what _that_ is, you should
look there first.

The character's music or the players? We listen to what the
GM has, usually crap. I've been trying to put together a mix
of music. I think dark and fast stuff would be best, but
nothing too loud and distracting.

When we have music playing during the game, it varies wildly. Queen.
Soundtracks and movie scores (THE CROW, both soundtrack and score, and THE
SAINT, both soundtrack and score, are recent examples; ARMAGEDDON is
threatening to get some air time, too). The new Blondie has some good SR
songs ("Boom Boom in the Zoom Zoom Room" and "No Exit" and
"Maria," which
could easily be about Mercurial). The soundtrack to STARGATE. Metallica.
Asia. Men at Work. Lots of other things; I've got a plethora of CDs to
choose from.

And then the other guys bring things.

The characters generally don't listen to music during a run.

TOMORROW NEVER DIES is an infinitely better score than GOLDENEYE, even
though the Tina Turner theme song blows Sheryl Crow's song from TND into
smithereens.

Smartlink 1 is in SR2 and I think in SR3.
Smartlink 2 is in FoF

As far as music I have a playlist of longs set up, wich i select from
depending on the situation.
For instance, while the team is doin anything suspenseful i put on a low
erie background music.
While they are in combat on the other hand I put on anything from Rob
Zombie to Ramnstein.

The Guns make then man - Ansarok

In game terms, the Smartlink provides a -2TN bonus across all ranges for
firearms that have hte module, IN the hands of characters that also have
theimplant.

In roleplaying terms, and borrowing from the one, NON-SR novel I have read
that had one in it (I read it before playing SR for the first time, the image
has stuck :-): it slows down your perception of time, and puts aiming
reticules and a "target/impact" dot into your field of vision. Thus, what
seems to others a "fast shot from the hip" is, to you, a moderate-speed, much
more AIMED shot ... and without bothering witht he physical sights on the gun.

None, really; the room has lousy acoustics, so the music just makes it hard
for me to hear my players, and my players to hear ME or each other.

Otherwise, I would go with something like the Akira Soundtrack, and such.
Something Techno. If I could find a TRIBAL techno sound, it'd fit even
better. :-) Know any cyberpunkish Tribal-Indian types, chummer?
