Hey Guys

I was wondering: Since Chicago in Shadowrun® had been
swarmed by insect spirits, quarentined, and then had
the quarentine lifted, what does that do to the NPCs
in that megasprawl? Both inside and outside the old
CZ?

Here's what I'm saying: In the Sprawl Sites
Sourcebook, FASA gave all kinds of everyday NPCs like
Bank Tellers, Bank Officials, Bar Owners, Bartenders,
Bar Staff, Body Shop Surgeons, Office Secretaries,
Corporate Executives, Fire Chiefs, Fire Fighters,
Doctors, Nurses, Hospital Chief Administrators, Hotel
Managers, Maids and Bellhops, Monorail Station
Mechanics, Night Club Owners, Wait Staff, Police
Precinct Captains, Police Precinct Lieutennants,
Detectives, Patrolmen, Police Precinct Clerical Staff,
Apartment Managers, Mechanics, Assistant Managers for
Apartments, Maids & Cooks, Restaurant Owners,
Restaurant Staff, Waiters, Cooks, Mall Association
Presidents, Mall Secretaries, Store Personnel, Store
Managers, Salespersons, Simsense Store Owner, Talisman
Shop Owner, etc.

Then in the back, there are all these contacts like
Corporate Official, Fan, Pedestrian, etc.

My question is: How would all these convert to fit a
horrific setting such as that still pertenant in
Chicago in what was the Containment Zone? Beyond the
Containment Zone, I figure the setting is a bit more
normalized (as much as it can be for Shadowrun®!). But
inside, I can't seem to get a grasp of it – even after
reading Bug City, Target: UCAS, and Awakened Lands.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

The same problem crops up with the 100,000 people who were trapped in the
Renraku Arcology while it was shut down. When they get released, there's
going to be a huge glut in demand for shrinks, counsellors, psychiatrists,
and other mental health folks. People caught in the CZ will likewise be
traumatised (or just plain dead) by the end of the event. This could be
handled in whatever way you feel like, as there are probably dozens of
different human responses to such stressful circumstances.

It might help to think of real world analogies. People who have been
kidnapped by terrorists and then released after a number of months. People
trapped in war torn countries during civil unrest, and so forth. See how
these people behave, survive, and deal with the situation afterwards, and
maybe you'll get some insight into how to roleplay NPCs who were stuck in
the CZ.

According to Scott Hiller, on Sun, 03 Feb 2002 the word on the street was...

I would say: think "post-war." Once a war is over, the people in the areas
over which were fought, start rebuilding their lives and their homes; I
think much the same would be happening in Chicago in the late 2050s and
2060s. Many of the buildings would be in need of serious renovations, only
suitable for tearing down, or completely ruined already, so people would be
trying to salvage what they can from the rubble -- including some of the
rubble itself, as you can recycle stuff like bricks, roof tiles or doors --
and use it to rebuild the city. With rebuilding the city, they're also
rebuilding their lives, and most would probably more or less try to pick up
where they left off: if you were a shopkeeper before '55, you'll probably
start a shop again after the "liberation."
