Someone here once said that the official world population in
2060 is about 3 billion people (3x10^9 :) ), but if it is so why do most
of them eat nutrisoy and other substitutes to natural food?
When the population in our world was 3 billion, there were no
substitutes, but they weren't needed. Of course there was starvation in
several parts of the world, but it must also be like that in SR. I mean,
if starvation was eliminated everywhere, what sort of cyberpunk world is
this (I think it _is_ cyberpunk, albeit of a different sort :) )?
So, with a population of 3 billion people in the Sixth World,
you wouldn't need artificial food to keep the whole world from starving,
as "natural" production would be big enough so that anyone who can
afford any food at all buys the natural sort. Besides, things such as
myco-protein cost more than normal food (today, at least :) ).
You could say that there's only natural food, but that would
diminish the feel of the setting. Another option, much better than the
first, is to overpopulate the world with 15 to 30 billion people,
justifying foodstuffs made from soy, myco-protein, krill, worm meat,
algae, etc. This also adds to the setting.
