This is going to sound really stupid, but am I the only one who would
appreciate more pictures of the equipment we're using? And to make
sure that those same pictures actually make some sense? I thought the
Ranger Arms SM-3 looked like a H&K PSG-1 for the longest time before I
picked up BBB1.

Yeah, this came up a while back on the message boards at AOL.
I would like some pictures also, though of course many people feel it is a
waste of space and money (gotta pay for them pics :-)
I liked the layout in Cybertechnology, with ore than one item per
picture/page.

According to Schizi@***.com, at 21:15 on 21 Aug 99, the word on
the street was...

"I found that a weapon I couldn't visualize rarely if ever showed up in my
games."
-- from the intro to the "Ultramodern Firearms" sourcebook for
Millennium's End.

I've found I agree with that; pictures of equipment help you very much in
actually getting the item used in the game. Much more equipment from the
SSC gets used in my games than from the SR3 main book, where similar items
exist in both books, anyway (there's not much alternative for a white
noise generator, for example). If you ask me, it's because the SSC has
pictures, so players can see their characters carrying around the items,
while a "faceless" item from SR3 is much harder to picture in their
characters' hands.

Absolutely. The size of the pictures in the SSC (and FoF) could have been
much smaller, and still give a good impression of what each item is like.
Three or four items per page should have been easily possible, even with
all the pictures.

Definitely a good idea to give the weapons each their own illos. While not
having a picture with the gun may make sense given space restrictions and
that all guns of a certain type tend to fall into a profile trend, not having
the illustration makes the descriptions seem tedious (kind of like reading
the list of Totems at the back of MitS; nice and all, but you gloss over
important details when you keeping having to read +2 dice for Combat spells,
-2 for illusion spells and +2 for detection spells, -2 for Combat spells and
+2 for Combat spells, -2 for detection spells.....argh!).

And Mike Jackson is the guy to call for weapon and cyber illustrations.
