Actually the ghost dance was created in 1891 by an indian by the name of
Wanekia. The great spirit "taught" it to him in a vision. This dance
supposidly allowed the indian people to reestablish the "hoop" of the world,
drive out the Wasichus (white people) and bring back the old indian ways.
This dance would allow them into the spirit world. Wanekia was the indian
version of the Messiah. The government at this time say the indians
rallying around this person and stopped the danceing. Anywho this
information came from a called _Black Elk Speaks_ by John G. Neihardt
(Flaming Rainbow) a very religious text to the indian people. I recogment
this book highly, it is very attuned to the spiritual world of the indian
people, and if you read it carefull IT CAN BE INTERPRETED INTO SHADOWRUN it
discuss the indian verion of the astral planes, and the metaplanes. It also
disscusses their view points on the natural aspect of the world, a wonderful
book for the shadowrun player.
