This is a major difference between our interpretations. IMHO it works like

IOW, the barrier appears on the other side of walls so as to form a
complete sphere whenever possible.

The barrier would be locked in place in the situation I sketched above,
but if the horizontal wall isn't there, it could move up and down. I feel
the barrier should move with the spell lock.
