Subject: Spell Design question
Date: Tue, 24 Oct 1995 23:35:36 -0500
I have just a single question concerning the Grimoire's Spell Design
rules. I'm just throwing this out so that people can comment and so I
can see what people think. Here goes:

According to the Base Target Number chart, spells that affect magic
have a target number equal to the target's Sorcery skill rating. This
strikes me as odd, does it you? The question I pose is this: Why is the
target for spells affecting magic equal to the Sorcery rating (ie, how much
the target knows about manipulating mana), rather than his Magic Attribute
rating (ie, how well magic works with the target).

Comments are requested (in this case mandatory :), flames will be beat
with a thick blanket.

If the rule is talking about spells that affect other spells than I would
think that Sorcery would the the opposing rating because your going against
the other mage's skill at casting spells. If you're trying to affect a
spell that was cast slopily its going to be easy. If your trying to affect
a spell that is woven tightly by a skilled mage its going to be a lot
tougher.

However, if your trying to affect a mages magical ability than I would
think that his magic rating would be the opposing factor.
