Some freinds and I were talking over the weekend, about the
possibilities for spells in Shadowrun. Especialy the
`Turn to <substance>' set of spells. You all know the ones I
mean, Turn to goo, turn to tree, turn to soft toy, etc.... "How
about `turn to Plutonium'?" Steel asked. I thought it was a
little silly and maybe impracticle, but then with spells like
Turn gun to fruit flying around why not? The critical mass for
plutonium is one kilo. So if you turn someones gun to plutonium
not only do you iradiate them, there weapon, when the spell is
droped is a heap of molten slag. I am assuming that objects do
not return to thier original state when the spell is droped.
Who would learn a spell like that? Toxic destroyer shamen!
Mages could not realy do it, as all the research they do would
mean looking into chemicals and the nature of metals. But
shamen just sit in thier medicine lodge and meditate, no one
need ever know what they are planing. The next stage is to make
a `small' neuclear device, only a few kilotons, and drop it on
the Tir. When the explosion has happened and the spell droped,
the plutonium goes back to being lead, say.

This gave me an idea for an adventure, what if a Toxic got hold
of this spell and tried to blow up Seatal? The players would
have to find and stop the maniac before he succeeded.

I know that there are probably big holes in my Physics, but then
this is a game with Immortal elves, (Not in my campaign there
not!! (Laghuh that one off suckers!!) Sorry I get a bit caried
away, or is that should be? :-) So I don't take it too seriosly.

The next point was how would you detonate it. This led to other
turn to spells, and the idea of an `Add <particle>' spell. Yes
I have done quantum physics and particle giberish, sorry
physics, but I am keeping it to three " add electron, add
neutron and add proton." As there is belived to be another
leavle of stable elements with atomic numbers up in the 200's,
this could leed to all sorts of interesting chemical magic.
this could be very difficult but rewarding for 'Runners. Need
an armour piercing bullet? Make it out of hyper-dense metal
with a mass of 260! I have not had time to figure much of the
rules for these out, but I was thinking about being able to
manipulate moles of substance equal to your magic rating. (For
those of you out there who are not chemists, one mole is the
atomic or molecular mass of a substance in grams.)

Any comments or sugestion, even interesting spells that you have
thought of. Digital Mage, any comments?

Enough for now, hear from you soon,

Terrifying thought. However Shadowrun doesn't go into this at all really.
They don't mix technology and magic (FASA officially that is) except that
they live next door to each other.
