Ok a bizzare idea hit last night, but first a reminder..
I MERLY COME UP WITH IDEAS
The gms job is to tell me wether they are too
silly or not.

Several of us were watching a Kate Bush vid on the box
channel, and the discusion turned to the fact that she seems to
know how to use a bow well and hasnt she not aged that much
since her early tracks to which my reply was " well she obviosly
a spike baby human Whos immortality gene has gone active "
Jackfrost stops looks at me funny and goes " well theres the
next craze to hit seatac the kate bush revival as her next album
comes out "

Any comments ? ( remember JackFrost says either all or not at
all for the imortality bit so this could well happen , if so
itll realy piss off thouse elves before i start the master plan
-- VITAS-E is still under development by my pc and he still
wants erans head on a platter)

Ok, the humour aside, I have a serious question on spike babys.

Is a spike baby born as an elf or as a human? I was always of the impression
that they were born as elves.

Also, a question on goblinisation: Does someone who goblinises have the
lifespan of their metatype or the lifespan of a human?

Another serious question - what's a spike baby?

Basically a human who was born during/in a mana spike (a localised increase
in the mana level, usually for a short time), and who was genetically an elf.
Hence they were born as an elf, but at a time before the awakening (a few
decades in some cases, and up to centuries in others). They generally come from
Robert N Charrettes (sp?) novels, "Never Trust an Elf", and one of the trilogys
too I think. Dodger (that elf we all know and love - well, maybe not if you
never played 1st ed and never read the novels), and Laverty (one of Dodgers
friends) are spike babys I think, with Laverty being rather old as far as I
can tell.

A spike baby is born elven. And a goblinised individual has the
human lifespan. In one of the novels was this ork father (who had goblinised
in his youth) that got old enough to see his sons(?) grow old and die.
And then there is this unnaturally old ork policeofficer in
one of the modules that goblinised in his youth.

I've been reading way too many of the novels recently, as I've
decided to start collecting them, so I may be able to answer this
question.
The only spike babies, AFAIK, were Elves -- and since Elves don't
goblinize (they're born that way), then yes, spike babies were all born as
Elves. There is also a rumour that some Elvish enclaves survived from an
earlier, unknown time...but the Elves themselves aren't saying.
As for Goblinization, it seems to vary depending on when they were
born. In one of the novels is an Ork who was born before the Awakening,
and seemed to be living a full Human lifespan even though his own daughter
was already severely senile, and his grandson felt old at twenty.
The base-line answer, though, is (as always) that if you can't
find it in the rulebooks, the GM should make it up.
