I always assumed that, because of the relatively long life-span that the SR2
black book alluded to, dwarves could have spiked like elves did. However, I
doubt that they would have the same lifespan of elves(no 4th World dwarves
wandering about), although there might be a few from 1900 or so walking around
in 2055. I guess its just what you want to do with them. This gives some
interesting ways to incorporate more dwarves into a campaign, like a dwarf
manipulating the "immortal" elves from behind the scenes in ways more subtle
than they could possibly imagine. But hey, that's just my style.

OOH, is this boy insidious or what!!! Good thinking, but way to low
key for me. How 'bout this:

Aformentioned dwarf was born in 1900. Grows to power in a small
corporation. Finds and manipulates said elves. But the elves are not
only "immortal", but Tir nationals at that. Let us say that said elves
work for a large corporation. Dwarf's corp is a subsidiary of elves
corp, but one knows this because of the usual corp politics. Now let
us say that said elves are Princes, and even one of them is the
son\daughter of a council Prince. The corp the elves work for is, oh
say, SAEDER-KRUPP. And for a twist, said dwarf reports only to his
boss, a Mr. RYWFOL, or some such drek. Get the picture?

Heh.
Dwarves are 1/3 the population in Barsaive, and they have most of
the know-how to build the kaers to begin with. And the "stopwatch
complex" is present in other metatypes as well, so I wouldn't count out
the idea of having ancient immortal dwarves from the 4th world wandering
around, especially if they're in a kaer they constructed left over from
the 2nd world, and they're quite happy to expand their nice subterranean
empire just need to come up for the odd thing or two and ...
<evil grin>
Remember the Illuminati game? The ones with the "Gnomes of Zurich"?
Especially with a good deal of legends about dwarves coming from
that area of the world, heh heh....

Heh.
Everyone runs around and complains about snotty, pointy-eared
b*stard immortal elves from the 4th world but no one says anything to the
immortal dwarf from the 2nd world deep in his nice kaer forging away at
his magic hammer ...
Only trolls and orcs live underground in Shadowrun, right? Hmmmm
... where DO all the dwarves go? They start out helping the trolls and
orcs build there underground places but then they sort of ... disappear.
Just like that nice Mayan temple city ... they started building
it around 700 B.C., finished the whole huge impressive place 1,000 years
later with all of its streets and houses placed to make a nice
astronomical chart/sextant, lived in it for a mere 800 years and just up
and vanished ....

Wow. That's an idea I hadn't had before. A kaer left from the 4th
world... Hm. I'll have to think about it.

PS. Is there any interest in me posting the adventure ideas that I'm

Yeah, sure, why not; the worst that could happen is that someone could flame
the shit out of your ideas :-) Besides, Paolo is wanting new modules for
his WWW page, so maybe these'll satisfy him.

If a Dwarf could 'spike they would have a harder time than the
poser elves. Elves are all +ve bonus's remember. The Dwarf would
be obviously physically different, with the short powerful dwarf
build. the prejudice, hate and derision of several DECADES of
this could make a |VERY| bitter character that hates Humans.
They would become reclusive and hide away with the freinds they
trust, maybe in palaces, private land, the benefits of the wealth
they'd build purely be applying dwarf beligerance to human
money.
Soon they'd start going to go underground, retreating further
into the ground.
paranoia drives them deeper.

They may meet the Elder Dwarves from the 4th age DOWN THERE

Ok. This is the premise of my campaign:

The runners start in Tir Na nOg, Belfast to be exact. They were limited
to priority C or lower for resources (They're comming up off the streets
for thier first run). The characters that we ended up with were: 2
Physical Adepts. One of these is on the Path of the Warrior. He is a
TRC (Tir Republican Corp) agent who is basically 'slumming' for a while
to see what new things are going on in the Belfast area. The other Phys
Ad. was trained in a Dun by a very old elven weapons mistress (so far
he's not sure if she's immortal or a spike baby [and niether am I]).
There is one street sam. who uses only ancient type weapons (DiKote
sword, and Dikote arrows [which ate almost all his starting money]) and
one wolf shaman. All are elven (not such a great thing in Belfast, but
it was thier choice..)

Thier first 'run':
A bartender they all knew asked them to escort some visitor from out of
town around for a while. They were to keep them safe, and show them
anything they wanted to see, within reason. The runners showed up the
next morning to see a Phaeton (the first any of them had ever seen)
pulling away from the curb of the bar. When they went inside, there were
two unfamiliar men, and thier contact. One of the men was an American,
obviously cybered. The other man was an older Asian gentelman. No
detectable cyberware. Astral showed only some minor headware.

They were given a van to shw thier guests around town in. The two men
gave seemingly random directions for a while, though they seemed to stay
in the waterfront district mnost of the time. The next day it was the
same, seemingly random places, including some historically prominent
places. On the third day they said they wanted to watch the Isle of man
ferry terminal. The runners started to wonder what, exactly, was up. They
started asking questions...

The next day, when they picked up the two gentelmen, the American was
carrying a rather large briefcase, as was the Asian. They asked the
runners to park the van in line-of-site of the ferry terminal, and then
asked them to leave. The runners volunteered to help the pair out with
whatever they were doing.... And the pair agreed. They told them they
were going to assassinate someone (The runners had figured this out
already) when asked who, they were shown a picture of a middle age elf in
court robes. (This is when the runners started to get very bad feelings
about this) Several of them decided to try and protect this noble, though
they certainly didn't tell the Johnson's this. They watched the Asiatic
man take out a sofisticated looking cyberdeck, and jack into a cellular
link, and the American take out a high powered sniper rifle. They were
told to be clear of the van, because the tow men did not expect to live
through the encounter... (this also worried the runners) Anyway, they
were told to scatter as soon as the target went down.

As soon as the late ferry arrived, everyone was set up. The Physical
Adepts were concealed near the walkway, the shaman was mingling with the
crowds, and our Sammie was concealed in an alleyway nearby. The Shaman
was Astrally perciving through most of this.

When the target appeared (last off the ferry, accompanied by several
gaurds) he was hit by the rifleman before anyone else could act. He went
down (very down, even with a rating 6 physical barrier up, he took D+2
after body roll + combat pool). There was a scattered firefight with the
gaurds, but after only 2 turns, the sound of LAVs was heard (that's FAST)
and the runners scattered. The first target hit by the Banshees was
somehow the van... (this is where the runners get suspicious again)

While the shaman was astrally percieving she noticed a strange
fluctuation in the astral around the target as he was hit, but could not
identify it.

The TRC was swarming over the area within a few more seconds. That
evening there was no mention of the incident on the evening news....

We'll see how it goes from here. I should be running this again later
today, so I'll let you know.

Cool run idea. I like it, and I'd be pleased to hear the next installment.
You have a good imagination there.

BTW, what is "TRC", or am I asking a dumb question?

Hmmm...perhaps birch beer (sorta like root beer but usually
sweeter) and something strong but subtle, like gin.
And a joke that'd be _much_ funnier after drinking a few of 'em?
