From what I remember reading the different sourcebooks, it seems they
indicate that each country has it's own preferences. I don't think just
because you add time, some sports are going to be more popular...look at
baseball the last few years (excluding this one...) it was Way down from
previous years.
I see this...you'd have your big sports...in the UCAS you'd have Urban
Brawl, American Football, Basketball, Combat Biking(?). Baseball, as
described in Wolf and Raven seems to be trying but I think it would be
lower than these 3-4.
Other countries would just have their favorites too...different order
basically. With the Tir, Hurling would be at top, and probably Urban Brawl
near the bottom...you know how fussy those elves are...haha.

One thing I would sense is the large number of World type games. Because
of all the chaos that has happened and the different countries that have
broken up and changed, people would want to hold onto something that they
can use to identify themselves with their nation. I think almost every
country will have a team for almost every conceivable sport. And though
most people won't watch their sport during it's season...if it's even
televised...they'd most definately be rooting strong for them during the
World Games...
And seeing that there have been added games, and not just the cybered and
non-cybered versions...I think there'd have to be some world competition
series going on almost all the time...

This is accurate in a real world perspective. Baseball is falling in
popilarity every year. I am a sports fanatic and I haven't watched a full 9
inning game in more years than I care to count. There isn't enough action. I
can see the fast moving 6th world leaving the sport behind.

Can you imagine if Baseball allowed cyber enhancements how big the park
would have to be? Can you imagine Mark McGuire with Muscle Replacement and
a cyberarm? The park would have to be around 800 to 1000 yards. The
distance between bases would have to be around 100. I'm not sure if
Baseball could survive.

What if they made the baseballs heavier?

Actually, in Shadowbeat they allow meta's and cyberware. They mentioned
that one pitcher not only Goblinized on the mound (into an Ork, BTW), but
he also had a heavily rebuilt pitching arm.

True enough. BUT think about how the game might change with cyberware and
adepts *and* metahumans. You could a cybered troll that would make Mark
McGwire look like a Little League benchwarmer. An elf adept that makes Ted
Williams look like that Mendoza fellow (you know, the Mendoza line in
baseball, batting .200 or below, that poor sap).

I'd think the game of baseball would become both higher scoring and more
exciting to watch. It's still baseball, which means it'll never be as
action packed as say, basketball. But it *should* be much more fun to watch.

I seem to recall that reaction enhancements, muscle improvements and
specialized smartgun/targeting links are very common bits of 'ware. Take
all that, add it to natural talent, and suddenly 61 home runs doesn't seem
like much of a record anymore...

Mark McGuire cybered. I think who couldn't survive would be fans in the
outfield bleachers. They would have to add deaths in the stands to the
boxscores.

Mark McGuire cybered hitting shotputs into the outfield stands. Yep, sounds
like a 6th world game to me. I wouldn't ever miss ESPN highlight shows.

First of all, baseball *does* allow cyber enchantments, as per Shadowbeat.

Second, I'm going to cut this second part of the thread off at the knees
right here. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding "that stuff" and a
hell of a lot of media hype not to mention ignorance.

Androstendione is NOT a steroid, it is the same class of pro-hormones as
DHEA. It does not provide the level of serum testosterone that steroids do
(300% vs. 3000%). It has so far been proven to be totally safe; enough so
that the FDA is allowing it for over the counter sale.

Andro provides a serum testosterone increase of about 300% over normal for
the space of about 3 to 4 hours. It is normally taken before a workout to
provide additional strength, energy and recovery ability (hard sessions
with weights are very draining).

To my knowledge, Mark McGwire does not take andro before a game; he takes
it before working out.

So andro does NOT have a direct impact on the way Mark plays the game. It
DOES affect what he gets out of the weight room, which THEN can affect how
he hits the ball. But Mark was a very talented hitter long before he ever
took andro.

Go pick up any bodybuilding magazine for the last several months; they've
all been reporting news, lab data, testimonials and various information
regarding Andro and it's various cousins such as 5-Andro and 19-Nor. At
least the reputable magazines, such as Ironman, have a solid reputation for
providing proper citations and references to scientific studies.

It's safe, it's legal (here in the US anyway, not in Canada) and it's only
a small edge, not the major hoo-haa that the media seems to think it is.

Trust me on this.

It doesn't matter if he does take it right before games. It is legal in
baseball.

Legal by lawa but none of the other major sports allow it. Paul Wiggins, a
Pittsburgh Steeler offensive tackle, was just suspended 4 games by the NFL for
using it.

You know what is really amazing about this? Creatine is passed out by most NFL
teams to the players.

True. It may not be next season though.

Again, true. Saw that in the papers yesterday I think.

Except Creatine really is safe (while Andro is too new to really say, but
indicators point to it being safe). All the deaths that have been claimed
to have been linked to Creatine are outright false when it comes down to
it. All those poor kids would have died anyway, typically from
dehydration. Some wrestlers that died were wearing rubber suits, not
eating and doing insane cardio work to get down to wrestling weight. Yet
it was Creatine that the parents, the school and the media blamed.

I've been taking Creatine for years now and I've never heard of a single
story nor read a credible article/news report that indicates that Creatine
is anything but safe.
