Hmmm, I recall saving a thread on this very topic somewhere.

I'm not sure if space exploration was considered very important after the
Awakening, so I'd say it'd be minimal. Has NASA or a similar space agency
been mentioned anywhere?

Kindof. I believe that Ares bought it up, in the Corps book?

*lugs stack of books to computer* Corporate Shadowfiles, pages 87-107 has a
bunch of stuff about Zurich Orbital, and I believe some general info about
orbitals as well.

I once ran something off the Daedalus, and considered writing source
material for Shadowrun in space. I like having orbital weaponry, hotels,
skyhooks, powersats, and national and corporate places like G-O rubbing
shoulders. Notes are somewhere if people are interested.

NASA facilities got bought out by Ares: another company bought up the CIS
Mir station. Of course, that still leaves out national military launch
facilities, which today are possessed by U.S., France (Ariane corp),
Brazil, India, China, Russia, Japan; I'm not positive but I expect the
Brits and Germans don't have trouble either.

So, re: Shadowrun I'd expect the Big 8 megacorps, Fed-Boeing, whatever corp
owns Ariane, all the suborbital carriers, UCAS, Japan, C.I.S., U.K.,
France, larger German states, possibly Italy, India, larger Chinese states,
elven South Africa (favorable location), Amazonia (though they may have
dismantled Brazil's operation), Argentina (if it's still around) and
Australia to be rubbing shoulders up there.

Hey, all this talk about space and in particular the discussion on magic
Up There gave me an idea. According to the Z-O section in Corp
Shadowfiles, there are a few rich tycoons living in Z-O trying to extend
their lifespan. Weeeelllll.... what if the reason it works is something
to do with this oh-so-gradual drain that the mana around the earth has on
the life in it when it is used for sorcery, conjuring, UGE, etc. But I
suppose that doesn't necessarily answer why lifespan before the Awakening
was still 'normal' - if this (almost entirely speculative) theory has
anything to it it would necessitate the dropping of life expectancy as
the mana moved closer to the physical again. Or wouldn't the
life-force of the folks in space be more prone to draining away
into the nothingness? Just a thought.

I think this could be on the line of that guy in the tank in Aztlan...
tech, not magic.

And don't forget Israel: I remember that they put a satelite into
orbit a bit ahead of schedule to show the Iraqis that if they can do
that, then surely they can put missiles into Bagdad with the same
accuracy. That sort of thing.

Ares Macrotechnology did buy NASA according to the NAGNA, page 50. Also in
Corp Shadowfiles (good for only the last 24 pages), AresSpace was formed
after Ares Macrotech purchased NASA in 2016. AresSpace is headquartered in
Houston, CAS, and is said to be international and operates "regional and
functional subdivisions [whatever that means], such as AresSpace CommSat and
AresSpace Lifters UCAS."

According to a post datestamped 4-10-54 by a decker calling herself Double
Janet, "Ares based its vast aerospace holdings around the old NASA
facilities that Ares Industries acquired from the U.S. government back in
2019. According to the provisions of that deal, Ares agreed to return
elements of the facilities to the U.S. government in 2055. Course, the U.S.
government doesn't exist anymore ..." One of those facilities is the NASA
Bullet Train that makes the Houston-Dallas/Fort Worth-Oklahoma City route.
UniOil is a co-manager of the bullet train along with AresSpace. As far as
I know, Ares still runs the Bullet Train (my game is set in Spring, 2056).

You know if UGE is a magical in nature in there's no magic in space then
won't it hold to reason that some one wouldn't mutate until reentering
the atmosphere. I also seem to remember seeing something in never deal
with a dragon about a test being possible if to see if some one would
goblinize. So what are you going to do if your the head of one of the
big 8 megacorps and your son or daughter tests positive for UGE...
Just a nasty thought for those GM's out there.

Naaa... No, Paolo, we gonna hate you for haveing game materials
posted to the list.
Indeed, I'd be interested, also.
Oh... and maybe we gonna start to hate you for quoting 25 lines and
adding just one of your own! :-)

I think what you're referring to is a test to determine magical ability, not
goblinization.

Aaout the material: I thought everyone else had already seen it
50-60 times! :)

About the quoting: I'm sorry, I went quoting-frenzy after
having written more than 200 lines of the next part of PuWa's
guide without quoting even one from someone else! :)

Send your scuba material and ideas to me for PuWa's part 3&1/2!
You're still in time!!! (OH, heck, why do I bother? I just
*know* I'm gonna do it all by myself...:)
