Subject: SR2:ST Tactical computer/Rangefinder

I've seen some stuff out there where
people are using all kinds of things as 'additional senses'
to increase a tactical computer's rating

Besides the ones given in ST,
they include
The Select Sound filter?
The Chemical analyser?
The Olfactory Booster?
and some others that sound kind of iffy.

Any comments on what you allow in your games?

I'm hesitant to include even the hearing amplification,
since it's not actually an additional sense....
Like Low light or Thermographic are.
It's more along the lines of magnification....

Does anyone have any specifics on how the Cybermod: Rangefinder works?
first, is it a vision modification (could be used as part of the free .5 E
you can add to a cyber eye)

If it is, how does it work with a smartgun? Does the gun need a
rangefinder installed on the gun, or is the rangefinder in the Cybereye
and no additional modification is needed?

What advantages does the Rangefinder give, besides the programmed grenade
bursts?

Don't normally use them in my game, (they cost to much essense wise so the
cyber types would preffer to get other things instead) but I'll give it a shot.

IMHO: Stupid. Hearing Amp is an Amplification yes, but hearing is an
important sense in combat. I used to play tag in the woods near my house.
Most of them were so loud you could track them by that noise alone. (I'm
sure someone has some impressive Mil. story that will make mine look silly
but I'm not a Mil. type) Do yourself a favor. Go sit someplace were there
are people going by, close you eyes, and see what you can tell about the
movements of people and objects. Then tell me you don't think hearing mods
are important for the Tac. Comp. and that it doesn't deserve the extra bonus.

The range finder is in the eye. No other mods neeeded.

The rangefinder was, IMHO, one of those nice to have things to have like the
eye clock in Cybertech. Until smartgun II came out. FOF p.84-85. Quick
synopsis: Smartgun II + Rangefinder = -1 long rane & -2 extreme range.
Sounds useful to me. :)
