Some Jap kid encountered a bunch of what sounded like Spider spirits in the
hallways (or was it air ducts) of "Little Godmother's"(?) HQ. How they came
about was never described, but it could be like other Insect spirits.

Yes, I can't recall the name, but I thought he was in "Never Trust an Elf";
I distinctly recall a dark-skinned Elf at the beginning torturing someone
with some bizarre unidentified Illusion spell.

Harlequin or the Big D wrote that, obviously.

I recall speculation in "Never Deal w/ an Elf" on FastJack being a "spike
baby", but when the main character asked, FJ changed the subject.

I honestly don't think FJ's a spike baby... Somehow, that doesn't feel
right. Can't explain it, though.... I think he's an old guy that's a God
in the matrix, or at the very least, God's Roommate...:)

I don't think it was either of them. Call me paranoid, but I have a feeling
that this may have been the "real" Ghost in the machine - or maybe
Brightlight. He's certainly more technical than either D or H.

He's right, I don't even think FJ is elven.

BTW a quick question, are the only known spike babies elven? I might buy
them not being ork or troll because these meta-types usually express
when magic returns, but couldn't they possibly be dwarven since they're
"born" as their meta-type the same as elves.

Actually, I thought there were some dwarf SB's mentioned somewhere, but I
don't know where...

The way I always figured it, Dwarf spike babies have always existed.
They never really went away - just lost their racial abilities when the
magic faded.
We still have people with their rough physical description today.
Dwarfism was construed as a physical condition in the 20th century, when in
fact, it was just a natural expression of a metatype.

When the magic returned, those dwarves would regain their vision, extra
muscle mass, extensive hair growth, et al.

My main reason for doing so was to keep dwarves from getting screwed by
elves yet again! :-)

BTW for those of you who have the SR 1st edition game, whatever happened to
the Dwarf's Immunity to Age power? :-)

Seems like they gave it to the elves!

Seriously though, I wonder why FASA first of all included this in 1st ed.
and why they later changed it for 2nd?

In the first harlequin adventure, there's a Troll in Germany who has a pet
theory about a "mini awakening" featuring Trolls.

I just looked in my SR1 Rb and I don't see, nor rember, the Dwarves having
Immunity to age, Pathogens yes, not age.

What might you be smoking? :)

Which printing do you have? I have a first printing right in front of me,
and it does list in the commentary section that dwarves MIGHT have immunity
to age.
(I'ts right next to the picture of the almost naked dwarf)

Besides, I don't smoke it, I inject it straight into my eyes - gets to the
brain faster that way! :-)

Sorry was away for a few days. I've got the second printing hardcover and
I'm looking at the same page you were. The phrase "Their life span is
unverified, but predictions based on metabolic rates run to over a hundred
years" does not Immunity to Age make. Not that I don't like the iea of the
characters could become immortal but lets not go overboard.

And injecting into your eyes runs the possiblilty of making your eyes
sterile. No more lecherous glances. :)

Oooops. Wrong Elven Decker. It was Dodger, not FJ (unless they are the
same and noone told me) who was declared a spike baby in that novel.
