It's been available in the US since early August (else I wouldn't have a
copy :) and probably over here in Europe too, by now.

The game itself is pretty much like SRII, so if you know and like that,
you'll have no trouble switching to SR3. They mainly streamlined the rules=

and added in stuff from other sourcebooks (like Rigger 2 and VR 2.0).

First, hello to the list - now I finally find something to post about after
lurking for several months.

Well, I bought my softcover about two weeks ago in a German RPG store (and I was
even able to obtain a BABY 10 days after GenCon), so I think it should be
available via any large distributor (the store where I bought my copy got it
from FanPro, FASA´s "official" distributor in Germany).

Btw, is my mailer configured correctly? I´m asking because I´m using Outlook.

You can get the softback in Sweden but I have yet to decide if I am
to buy it or not simply cause softback core rulebooks sucks so badly.

Ooooh Mike, you can't renember my name - that makes my heart bleeding ;-)

on the the RN list, as he got hold of one through a hobby store last week
sometime.

That's right, but the store got only four softcover and they were sold out
after a few days after that. More will be en route.

Hi Christof,
I asked the very same question a few days ago but didn't get an answer. I
guess most of the members on the RN list will not start a new campaign with
the new rules until the new supplementels (MITS, Man & Maschine and Cannon
Catalog (?)) showing up.

So you have some options.
First: you will wait until the german (I assume you are from Germany too)
version comes out - rumour says end October at "Spiel 98"
Second: You look at a game store - maybe your a as lucky as I am and one
BABY in OV.
Third: You may ask Mike Bobroff about his spare one and maybe he will sell
it to you.

The changes makes sense to me. The game becomes more lethal to the player. I
didn't had the time to read the BABY fully, but I find it REALLY
interesting.

GMing is a bad job but someone has to do it.

Is that the con in Essen? Do you have any dates for that, as I'm thinking
of going there (four cons in one year! Yay! :) because from what I've
heard it's supposed to be quite big, and anyway it's only a few hours by
train...

_Are_ there any BABYs for sale anywhere? IOW, was the rumor about "1 in
25" true, or not?

The Spiel 98 is scheduled from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th of October; you
might want to check out the website http://www.messe-essen.de/spiel98/index.html
. As far as I know, it´s not only very important concerning toys and "ordinary"
games but also concerning RPGs; AFAIK Mike Mulvihill showed up there last year
as well as Andrew Bates (Aeon/Trinity line developer).

- From what I understand FASA's policy to have been was that if an
individual store would have placed an order for 24 first printing
softcovers, then FASA would have included a single hardback in their
order. This ratio was not available at the distributer level, only at
the retailer level. FASA did allow stores who had ordered the case of
24 to send back up to 1/3rd of the order if it went unsold, but that
meant the store would still have to expect to sell 16 copies of the
softcover.

Under these conditions, I strongly suspect that the hardback never did
get sold at the retailer level. The few stores who did manage to meet
the conditions set down by FASA probably held a promotional contest
with the Hardback as the prize. (And in one case that I've heard
about, since the store owner was a Shadowrun player himself, he kept
the Hardback for his own use).

It's interesting to note that White Wolf is having their own problems
with their limited edition core rulebook; FASA hasn't cornered the
market on annoying the customer base with poor handling of limited
editions. Seems that White Wolf had their retailers hype up the
Limited Edition version of Vampire, but then oversold it through their
own website. From what I've heard, White Wolf sold about a thousand
online, leaving them with only 1500 to send out to retailers. This is
only around 60% of the amount ordered by the various distributers, so
from what I understand, each distributer is geting shorted out of
their orders.

Lovely, huh?
