Okay already, I've heard a whole heap of rumours and half-descriptions
from a variety of sources about how PhysAds can now buy extra points of
magic for 20 points of Karma. Can they do so mulitple times (kinda like
improving a skill level in 2nd Edition I suppose)? If they can, are the
still able to get initiated, and if they can get initiated, what
powers/advantages do they receive from it... Someone enlighten me okay?

And verily, did Bob Tockley hastily scribble thusly...

In the entire history of shadowrun, Initiation has *never* been in the main
book. It's always been in the Grimy thing.
So, unless they've broken with tradition, which seems unlikely because they
already said they had a lot of work to put in the main book as it was,
you'll have to wait for MitS for initiates...

Yep, they simply get a point to spend on powers if they spend 20 karma.
Hell, I suppose a nice GM might allow partial point purchases.

Intitation is NOT detailed in SR3. At the GC Q+A, the plan for MITS was
that adepts can certainly intiate, and intiate grades will start at 1 and
(afaik) add to magic.
Will this give them a power point? I dunno. For less than 20 karma? I
hope not! So whats the point? The obvious point (from SR3) is this- your max
level in any power is your magic rating. So if you get cyber or otherwise
reduce magic to far, your powers will be crummy (but broad) if you buy gobs of
power points without intiating. If you want 8 extra unarmed dice, you need a
magic of 8. Of course, that a minimum of 2 intiate grades (and 2 power
points, if those don't come with).
Personally, I can't see much use for powers over level 4, besides sheer
grossness (and mundane stat and skill increases can do that), but that may
just be me. Its a cool limit in theory, but I hope adept initiation offers a
little more than that and limited cases to existing meta-magic powers, and it
probably will. Even the grimoire2 had a decent adept only-metamagic / power,
enhanced centering. I'm sure MiTS can do better. (hint hint, Steve)

Okay. Yes Adepts can purchase power points to increase the number of
abilities they have. They CAN do this more than once. From what Steve
told me they will also be able to initiate. Initiation will increase their
magic attribute and give them the additional point to purchase powers with
as well. Power points do NOT add to the adepts magic attribute. Why
initiate then you ask? Well an adept can only have a number of "levels" of
a power equal to their magic attribute. Also the magic loss roll has been
altered from SR2. If you roll two ones on the magic loss role you lose a
point of magic no matter what. (In SR2 this was not the case.) I had
visions of cybered up physads running around with 1 point of magic and
twenty power points. This has been nicely balanced in the final rules
however. The adept in the above scenario could not have more than one
extra initiative die, more than one extra die added to a skill, or more
than one point added to an attribute etc. Also if the above adept munchy
should happen to roll two ones when he has only one magic point left than
lets just say that he will be hating life big time.

Hope that helps.

That is the thing that Mike has missed up to this point in time. Thank you so
very much Mongoose for showing it too him. As I pointed out in another post,
advancement is elsewhere that character creation...
