Hi all,

Has anyone else noticed the nice little pisstake
that FASA has put into SR3.

The last colour plate has two gangers preparing
to toast a vampire looking creature with a flame
thrower just after the creature has ripped out the
throat of one of their chummers.

The caption on it was to the effect of

"Two gangers prepare to shed some light
on the world of darkness."

I was ROTFLOL at this. I certainly interpreted
this as a "watch out White Wolf, SR3 is in the
house and it's looking to kick your butt."

Does anyone know if this was intentional or
'purely coincedental'.

Cheers,
Tim Burke

Check out the freaky rigger woman on pg. 131. Look at the number in the
little cylindrical thing above her head. :)

Tommy Two Tone, if I recall correct...

Last year at Gen Con (97), they used that number as an LTG number for
someone named Jenny in a demo game we played... :]

it gets weirder. In the Lehigh Valley, where I was unfortunate enough to go
to high school, 867 was a real extension and the people at 867-5309 got
really irate when asked whether Jenny was home...

Though it was a good song...

Wow, eerie. I went to Penn State, and the exchange for State College, PA is
867 too. Though I heard the 5309 number got changed because they were tired
of the calls. :)

How bout I indulge you on list, to cover anyone else out there who doesn't
get it (Youngsters, I tell ya).

There was a song by Tommy Tutone (Spelling?) in the early-mid 80's Called
867-5309 (Jenny).

The song was about some guy who was in love with a girl named Jenny.

The kicker is, that there really was someone named Jenny with that phone
number. She was a friend of the band's (Worked for the record studio,
IIRC), and they wrote is kind of a joke.

She quickly had to change her number, as did anyone else who happened to
get saddled with that phone number, since there are like 5 or 6 areas
around the country that use the 867 prefix.

Anyways, that's the story... And we're all nostalgic morons on this
list... :]

actually, I think you'll find the reason that Danyel didnt know of the song
would more than likely be because I don't believe that that song was a hit
outside of the US at all.... I had never heard of it til '93 when I cam to
the US

And just the odd bit of triva is that Tommy Tutone is currently a high
school teacher in Ohio.

The really scary thing (almost Karmic) about this is
when I went into my local gaming store today
the owner, Tony, had the radio on. I must say I nearly
drekked myself because good ol' Tommy TuTone
was belting out 8675309(Jenny).

I haven't heard this song in about 10 years
on the radio. It really got my paranoid decker
tendencies going, like who the frag is reading
my mail _and_ messing with the playlist at 4BC
and why am I the only one who finds this weird.

Of course it could just be one of those bizarre
coincidences.

Yeah right :)

Here the local phone company has disconnected that extension, for

The pisstake is in the wording of the caption of the plate.
White Wolf, the creators of Vampire, Werewolf etc have
their campaign world known as "The world of darkness'

The joke is that two Shadowrun gangers are about to
set fire to "The world of darkness" with a flamethrower.

I.E. they are 'flaming' it.

Granite, pay attention to those last three words..."world of darkness", and
the entire topic has to do with Vampires....

World of Darkness....White Wolf....Vampire the Masquerade....
