Here's another thought on passing through
auras: Fighting your way through them might
cause some stun damage now and then, but
more importantly, it might use up
(BarierRating)D6 minutes worth of your magic
rating, with the roll made secretly. In other
words, if you have a magic rating of 6 and you
spend 3 1/2 hours wandering about astrally and
then pass through a rating 5 barrier, you have
somewhere between 2 hours 25 minutes and
2hours of time on the astral left, and you'll have
to pass through the barrier again on the way
out... If you run out of time passing through a
barrier, you die.

As a side note, I think magic rating should be
part of the formula for penetrating astral barriers.

Extra bookkeeping involved but not too bad of an idea.

Or Will. I'm not sure myself. Magic rating is kinda mean on the burnouts
unless Kenson's new geasa are used. And what if a power focus is used?

Ancient cultures believed that names held great power, personal names
more so and they were guarded very closely. To protect themselves, they
answered to another name, because if another discovered their real name,
it could be used against them.
History repeats itself.

This is an interseting idea. However, your time spent in
the astral is dependent upon your essence and not your
magic rating. Are you proposing that this penalty would
affect your playtime or your magic rating? It appears you
mean the playtime but wouldn't it be harsh if affected your
magic rating?<EG>
I don't recall this threads formula for penetrating barriers
but as it stands in the BBB, the mages magic rating is the
TN of the resisting barrier.
